Ok, I know today everyone is focused on the New Hampshire results and assessing the future of the 2016 presidential primary and eventual contest. But the rest of the world is still going on with its business, and our enemies don’t take a day off.
As President Obama has ordered military commanders to prioritize climate change in their military operations, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, delivered some sobering news.As reported by Fox News, “The nation’s top intelligence official confirmed Tuesday that the Islamic State has succeeded in making and deploying chemical agents in Iraq and Syria — calling it the first such attack by an extremist group in more than two decades.
The confirmation of mustard gas use came during Director of National Intelligence James Clapper’s testimony before the Senate Armed Services Committee, where he spoke to the Islamic State’s growing sophistication online and in the battlefield.
He did not elaborate on where and when the chemical attacks occurred, though there has been mounting evidence the terror group was experimenting with chemical weapons.“[The Syrian government] has used chemicals against the opposition on multiple occasions since Syria joined the Chemical Weapons Convention. ISIL has also used toxic chemicals in Iraq and Syria, including the blister agent Sulfur mustard,” Clapper said.He said this marks the first time an extremist group has produced and used a “chemical warfare agent in an attack since Aum Shinrikyo used sarin in Japan in 1995,” referring to the Tokyo subway terror attack that year.
Fox News previously reported on ISIS’ potential experimentation with chemical weapons. Photos taken by the Kurds in northern Iraq last summer and reviewed by Fox News showed burns and blistering on skin following exposure to “odorless, colorless” agents absorbed through the clothing. A doctor who was in northern Iraq last year said he treated Kurdish fighters whom ISIS used as “lab rats for WMD,” adding that the variety of burns and illnesses suggested that “mustard gas, precursors, as well as neurotoxic acids” were being tested.”
Do any of you remember President Obama’s “red line” for Syria? Needless to say, those lines have long since been crossed, moved, redrawn, and expanded. The worse nightmare is coming to fruition — an Islamic terror group with a viable military force capable of employing chemical weapons. And as we reported on Tuesday, President Obama is focused on our military commanders prioritizing climate change into their military operations. This was supposedly the jayvee team that was contained.Look, there’s no need to further consider what Barack Obama will do about the situation with Daesh. Obama is looking for the barn.
So what I want you to consider is this: who will be the individual to understand his or her responsibility as commander in chief as our next president? This will be a very challenging year with state and non-state belligerent actors who realize they have this entire year to advance their goals and objectives.
They know there will be no confrontation or impediment to their designs. And if this nation doesn’t respond with a declaration of strength in November of this year, the pain will only intensify. Freedom has to be defended, and it does require a beacon, a standard bearer, and that’s what the United States has been, and must continue to be.This isn’t about a perpetual state of war nor is this about being a warmonger. No, this is about recognizing there is evil in the world and the only way to defeat it is to confront it. This is about remembering the mantra of “peace through strength” and understanding that peace is a result of vigilance and a determination to never surrender or succumb to the dark specter of tyranny.
Being president is not about giving away free college tuition, it is about protecting the institutions of this Constitutional Republic. Being president is not about pitting demographic groups against each other and parroting simple sound bites and empty rhetoric. It’s about safeguarding the blessings of liberty that so many men and women have sacrificed to preserve for future generations.
I’ve been on battlefields and know what combat entails. No one wants peace more than a Warrior, who stands guard to protect and defend. A true Warrior does not seek to incite warfare, but when the security of his homeland is threatened, when the tranquility in which they seek their children to grow and thrive is put at risk, the Warrior will dons the helmet, shoulders the shield and lowers the spear, prepared to draw the sword to serve, and if necessary give that last full measure of devotion.
We can sit around and listen to the embodiment of weakness who would abdicate our role and responsibility. But never forget, in 490 BC when tyranny told liberty and freedom to lay down their weapons…freedom responded “Molon Labe.” And in Gonzales, when the Mexican Army told the Texans to give back their cannons, they replied “come and take it.”
This past Sunday the country watched the Super Bowl and two teams took the field to be the champions of Super Bowl 50. They did not show up looking for fairness. They didn’t take the field looking for free touchdowns. They took the field to win.
Americans love winners – that’s why we cheer for our favorite team. So when it comes to the ultimate Super Bowl, our very existence against savage barbarians, why do we not want to win?
