Do you think maybe this whole charade is finally coming to an end? Frankly, it can’t come soon enough. Just imagine the amount of time (i.e money) and effort that’s been wasted in Washington trying to find some link somewhere between Donald Trump and “Russia.” Just imagine what else could have been accomplished instead…oh, like tax reform maybe. But that’s wishful thinking. In the meantime, “America’s most (un)trusted news source” is at it again, broadcasting fake news. But this time, CNN actually did the right thing and retracted the story.
Philly.com reports, On Thursday evening, CNN investigative reporter Thomas Frank published a potentially explosive report involving an investigation of a Russian investment fund with potential ties to several associates of President Donald Trump. But by Friday night, the story was removed from CNN’s website and all links were scrubbed from the network’s social media accounts.
“That story did not meet CNN’s editorial standards and has been retracted,” CNN said in an editors note posted in place of the story. “Links to the story have been disabled.”
Frank, who was a 2012 Pulitzer Prize finalist mind you, had written in his report that the Senate Intelligence Committee was investigating a “$10-billion Russian investment fund whose chief executive met with a member of President Donald Trump’s transition team four days before Trump’s inauguration.”Ooh.
Anthony Scaramucci, an adviser to Trump during the presidential campaign and a member of his transition team’s executive committee, was mentioned in the story as having met Kirill Dmitriev, the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) which is supposedly overseen by Vnesheconombank, a state-run bank currently under U.S. sanctions.
The “gotcha” premise of Frank’s article was that the meeting between Scaramucci and Dmitriev COULD have included discussions of lifting sanctions. OOOH. There you have it! COLLUSION.Except. That didn’t happen.
So CNN pulled the story and deleted all references to it. Will outlets like Bloomberg, which also picked up the story do the same? Doubtful.
But for his part, Scarmucci accepted the apology.
Can we please move on now? Sadly we now have to contend with liberal hysteria over the GOP health care bill and the assertions that “people will die.“ Maybe Russia wasn’t so bad after all…
