Most know Milwaukee Sheriff David Clarke as a conservative firebrand (even though he’s a registered Democrat), famous for his passionate defense of America’s law enforcement officers. Clarke has made a name for himself as both a distinguished sheriff and a conservative voice, elevating himself to national fame in the process.

Now, it appears the Trump administration has noticed too. In an interview with 1130 WISN, Clarke confirmed that he is set to join the Trump administration in the Department of Homeland Security.

Sheriff David Clarke of Milwaukee County, Wisconsin on Wednesday said he has accepted a job in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

Clarke told conservative radio host Vicki McKenna during an interview on 1130 WISN that he will leave his post as sheriff to serve as a deputy secretary in DHS.

At this point, it’s still unclear what Clarke’s function will be with DHS. However, Clarke is well known for his support of President Trump’s plan to better protect our nation’s borders. At DHS, he could be a valuable asset in assuring that threats to the nation’s security do not spill across the border illegally.

The move puts an end to years of speculation that Clarke was ready to move up to a more prominent role. Many supporters have called for him to earn a similar position for years. Now, it appears, those wishes have come to fruition.
