President Donald Trump has plenty of money to live on, which is why he promised to donate his salary to the government, a move that no doubt helped him to victory at the polls last year. The president has given his first paycheck to Antietam National Battlefield, a national park in the state of Maryland that commemorates the bloodiest day in the history of the Civil War.
According to The Washington Times, Mr. Trump’s first quarter salary of $78,333 was matched by an anonymous donor who gave another $22,000, bringing the gift to $100,000, Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke said. The donation will restore an historic house on the battlefield, and will help replace fencing.
“As both the Secretary of the Interior and a military veteran, I’m deeply honored and humbled to deliver the donation to Antietam National Battlefield on behalf of President Trump,” Mr. Zinke said. “The president’s donation will allow generations of Americans to learn about our history and heritage on this sacred site.”
We all know how pretty much anything involving the Civil War tends to trigger the left, seeing as how one of the main issues at the center of this bloody conflict had to do with slavery, and anything Trump touches seems to be a springboard for liberals to accuse the man of racism. Therefore, it wouldn’t be the least bit surprising if there were to be some sort of massive backlash and crazy accusations of racism being tossed his direction once the story gets around. After all, the left is doing it’s darnedest to erase any vestiges of the Confederate history in our nation.
Nonetheless, it’s refreshing to see a politician actually keep his word, particularly when it comes to money.
