President-elect Donald Trump has been hard at work putting together his team since winning the election. Many positions have already been filled, but it’s the positions that haven’t been filled which are garnering the most attention.Perhaps the most important cabinet post yet to be filled is that of secretary of state. Many names have been floated as potential candidates, such as Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney, and John Bolton. However, news today is that Trump’s top pick may have already been chosen. From The Hill:
President-elect Donald Trump has selected Exxon Mobil CEO Rex Tillerson as his nominee for secretary of State, NBC News reported Saturday.
Exxon Mobil Corp. Chief Executive Rex Tillerson has emerged as the leading candidate to become President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for secretary of state, according to two transition officials, marking the latest twist in a multiweek search for a top diplomat.
Mr. Tillerson moved ahead of other candidates, including 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, who have had multiple conversations with Mr. Trump about the job. Mr. Tillerson is viewed by some of Mr. Trump’s advisers as a mold-breaking pick who would bring an executive’s experience to the diplomatic role, said a person involved in the process. The Hill is reporting that John Bolton, who was also under consideration for the position, will be tapped to be the Deputy under Tillerson.
The report comes just one day after former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani removed himself for consideration from the post.
There is no word yet on if and when the news could become official. Stand by.[Note: This post was authored by Michael Lee. Follow him on Twitter @UAMichaelLee]
