Prominent Dem leader under fire after RACIST comments go public

Once again, the mask has slipped off the face of yet another Democrat, another champion of tolerance and diversity.

Let us take a quick trip down memory lane and remember Joe Biden’s description of Barack Obama as “the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy.”

Or how about the lovely Harry Reid’s description as a “light-skinned” African American “with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one.”

Stomach-churning to be sure.

But wait, there’s more.

Fast forward to today’s Democrat leaders who are all too eager to play the race card at any turn – and yet seem oblivious to their own racist tendencies.

As we reported here, the Florida Democrat Party held its annual fundraising gala on Saturday. Poor Debbie Wasserman Schultz was left off the speaker’s roster. Oh well.

In any event, a number of black lawmakers were in attendance. As is the custom at these events, local, state and federal officials are usually recognized and noted.

However, Florida Democratic Party chairman Stephen Bittel was worried about the length of the program, and decided to eliminate the segment during which state legislators (including a number of black members) would be recognized.

According to the Washington Free Beacon, Bittel referred to the anger from lawmakers over the snub as “childish.” Bittel also said State Sen. Oscar Braynon (D.), a black legislator who expressed lawmakers’ unhappiness to the chairman, was acting “like a three year old.”

After the dinner, white State Sen. Lauren Book (D.) asked Bittel about the situation.

“They’re like children, these black lawmakers. They just don’t get it,” Bittel said. “I raised more money in this amount of time than they ever could.”

Bittel made matters worse for himself by initially accusing the African-American lawmakers of “playing the race card” once they took offense, Politico reports.

Oh sheesh. Really?

And of course, he offered a mea culpa.

“I have much to learn and I am committed to being better and learning from this mistake. I sincerely apologize,” Bittel said in a written statement to Politico.

However, it appears for now, Bittel is keeping his job. The Miami Herald reports, Two top African-American Democrats in the Florida Legislature aired their grievances Tuesday with Florida Democratic Party Chairman Stephen Bittel, reaching an apparent truce — for now — after Bittel called black lawmakers “childish.”

Senate Democratic Leader Oscar Braynon of Miami Gardens and future House Democratic Leader Kionne McGhee of Miami stopped short of asking Bittel for his resignation during a two-hour-long private meeting at Bittel’s Miami Beach office Tuesday.

But the lawmakers, who remain upset, said they demanded that Bittel take a more inclusive approach to leading the party ahead of the 2018 election.

Looks like it’s time for some “sensitivity training” for Mr. Bittel. Certainly he can find a local community college offering some white privilege classes, don’t you think?

Democrats are fond of telling us how institutional racism still exists in this nation. While many would disagree, perhaps they’re right…but it’s in their OWN party.
