A headline from the New York Daily News caught our eye: “Hillary Clinton’s and aides could lose security clearance over State Department email probe: report.”The shocker wasn’t that Hillary was at the risk of losing her security clearance – it’s that she STILL has it in the first place. She can access sensitive government information with that clearance, and given the hundreds of times she’s knowingly shared classified information in the past, lawmakers are beginning to wonder if perhaps that’s such a great idea.
According to the Daily News, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and her aides could lose their still-active security clearances pending the results of a State Department probe into their alleged mishandling of classified info over a private email server, according to Fox News. The department began its review as part of a longstanding “continuous and ongoing program for oversight of the handling of classified information” after the FBI wrapped its own probe, according to a May 23 State Department letter responding to inquiries from Sen. Chuck Grassley, who chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee.
The open review of the debated-to-death email issue, which the department waited to launch “to avoid prejudicing the FBI investigation,” is “ongoing,” the letter said.
Reached by the Daily News, a State Department spokesperson did not confirm or deny a probe into Clinton’s emails.“Due to privacy considerations, the Department cannot provide any information regarding any current or former employees’ security clearance or access to classified information,” the spokesperson said.
While it’s unclear when this new inquiry by the State Department was first launched, the Washington Examiner observes that it “seems to have come on the heels of former FBI Director James Comey’s announcement in July 2016 that he’d recommend no charges be brought against Clinton for her ethically dubious use of a homebrew server.”While Comey did let Hillary off the hook, he also did confirm that she had not only sent classified information on hundreds of occasions, she lied about having never done so.
We all know government is inefficient, but how the heck has it taken this long to revoke her security clearance?
Why would she need it anyway? Isn’t she supposed to just disappear back into the woods?[Note: This post was written by Matt Palumbo. He is a co-author of the new book A Paradoxical Alliance: Islam and the Left, and can be found on Twitter @MattPalumbo12]
