Every day, it looks more and more like Donald Trump will be the Republican nominee for president of the United States.A new national Quinnipiac University poll released today shows Trump with 39 percent – his highest number yet – and a 2-1 lead over his nearest competitor. Sen. Marco Rubio is second at 19 percent, with Sen. Ted Cruz at 18. Gov. John Kasich, Gov. Jeb Bush and Dr. Ben Carson are all in single digits, with Carson at the bottom of the heap at four percent. Nine percent are undecided.
Remember, this poll was taken after the mud-wrestling competition that was last Saturday’s debate. In the previous poll, Trump was at 31 percent, so his harsh comments about Jeb Bush didn’t seem to hurt him one little bit.HOWEVER… on the Democrat side, it’s a different story. Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton are locked in a virtual dead heat, with Sanders at 42 percent and Hillary at 44. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus four points.
But…based on delegate counts, Clinton is WAY ahead of Sanders with 394 (the majority already pledged “super delegates”) to Sanders’ 44. Sure looks like that game is rigged to me. Who cares what the voters want? At least on the Democrat side so far, it’s what the establishment wants that matters.
