“In the first six to twelve months of a war with the United States and Great Britain I will run wild and win victory upon victory. But then, if the war continues after that, I have no expectation of success.”“You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind each blade of grass.” “I fear all we have done is awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve.”
The above quotes are supposed to have come from the famous Japanese Admiral and architect of the Pearl Harbor invasion Admiral Yamamoto. The second quote is challenged to be a great fable, but it still does hold value. We here in America pride ourselves in the Second Amendment right we possess. Heck, you think the Trojan horse infiltration in Germany, Europe, would be possible in America, and that wanton personal attacks on civilians, women, would happen here? In America we find ourselves victims of Islamic jihadist attacks in places that are “gun free zones.” And how absurd that one of those places was on a U.S. military installation — as a matter of fact, the largest military installation in the world: Ft. Hood Texas. It’s called self-defense for a reason.
Yesterday while at the Park City Republican Women’s Club Christmas luncheon, I sat and chatted with a woman whose son owns a gun store. She confided in me that gun sales have slowed down since the November 8th election. Gee, I wonder why?
Her son told her there’s a palpable sense of relief, and that many potential gun owners are now awaiting a drop in prices — gotta love that free market. But, in this era of domestic Islamic terrorist attacks, it’s imperative that “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”Now of course, the progressive socialist left will argue the definition of “militia” but I tend to believe, as a free people, we all have a responsibility for the security of a free state. After all, just think about if one person had been armed in San Bernardino, Chattanooga, Orlando, or at The Ohio State University, where a well-trained, armed, law enforcement officer disposed of an Islamic jihadist.
When a terrorist or criminal is about to attack, your first line of defense is a fellow citizen who has firearms training, and also has their firearm at hand. Remember my maxim: “an unarmed person is a subject, an armed individual is a citizen.” That armed citizen is much more likely to be nearby than a police officer or first responder. Because I believe an armed citizenry is America’s real first line of defense, I was pleased to learn about a new group called the Home Defense Foundation, based in New Orleans, whose board of advisors has Elbert Guillory, a dear friend, patriot, and all around great American on it.
Their website, HdfNola.org, shows you just how different and needed this group is, and why it should be replicated nationwide…especially in a place like Chicago. Sadly, Mayor Rahm Emanuel is more concerned about protecting criminal illegal aliens, than the unarmed subjects of his city. Always remember, it was an elderly black man who challenged the draconian gun laws in Chicago. Why. Because he wanted a shot gun to protect himself. The Home Defense Foundation is an all volunteer, citizens group that sponsors home and self defense classes for free. Their mission statement reads: “Neighbors teaching neighbors about home and self defense – and organizing, so that our voices are heard. Hmm, something tells me this isn’t the type of “community organizing” Obama and the leftists accept — they prefer the insidious “Black Lives Matter” group. These New Orleans citizens are all volunteer, and they never ask for money. Imagine that? A group that asks for no money, just for your time and interest in learning to be a responsible firearm owner.
Their free firearm classes are described this way: “Our classes are designed for people with little or no experience with firearms. We use models that are easy to fire, have little or no recoil and are not too loud. And guess what? That’s all you need! Statistics prove that if you are about to be attacked and you present a firearm the criminal is likely to flee. You don’t need a gigantic “Dirty Harry Callahan” hand cannon. What you do need is effective training and a firearm you know how to use.”
I couldn’t agree more. The most important thing about a defensive firearm is that you know how to use it and that you have it with you when a terrorist or criminal attacks. And just as important as the firearm philosophy of this group is their tremendous diversity. Their website prominently features senior citizens, women and minorities. Imagine that, no old white guys — now that just does not fit the narrative of the gun control leftists who want subjects, not citizens.Case in poin:, a black gentleman named Antwine Williams evaluated the firearm class he was taught by Mike Weinberger, the group’s founder. Mr. Williams said the model Mike chose for him was easy to handle, had no recoil, was not intimidating and was “perfect” for people who do not have a lot of experience with firearms. Aside from offering free training, the mission statement of the Home Defense Foundation talks about “organizing,” which they do very well — and they don’t issue out binky toys, warm cocoa, and safe spaces.
But it’s not just about the training and educating that the HDF has as a mission. When a black pastor was arrested for allegedly using a firearm improperly against two criminals who were trying to run him over with a pickup truck (the pastor caught them stealing air conditioner parts from his church) the Home Defense Foundation went to work. They purchased a full page ad in a local newspaper saying they sympathized with the pastor’s position. This proved that the pastor had organized support. Local prosecutors then quietly worked out a deal and the pastor was set free.
It’s time we Second Amendment advocates embraced this concept of “community organizing” and showing our strength.
In another case a white homeowner with a pregnant wife and a baby to protect shot a black teen who was trying to break into his house at two in the morning. The teen was injured but lived. The homeowner was arrested under a broken law that presumed a home defense shot was valid if the criminal died, but not if he lived. Of course, if this white homeowner had killed the invading black teen, BLM, Al Sharpton would have been there and Obama would have declared this criminal could have been his son. This may all sound crazy, but it was true. The Home Defense Foundation held rallies and went on TV and radio and highlighted the unfairness of this law, which they lobbied to have changed. The result: Two grand juries refused to issue an indictment against the homeowner, and the broken law was changed and fixed. A picture on their website shows former Governor Jindal as he signed the changes to this antiquated and absurd law.
Groups like the Home Defense Foundation are necessary, imperative if we are to achieve an armed citizenry that can effectively protect itself, and if we hope to fix our broken criminal justice system. These citizen volunteers are effective, and I hope their model is copied nationwide.
We all know there are many places around the nation that need such a group. There’s a reason why we now have a former U.S. Marine Corps general as the head of our Homeland Security department. We are on a battlefield, not just against criminal elements, but the infiltration of dangerous illegal immigrant gangs, and Islamic jihadists.
I’m a serious and dedicated Atlanta Falcons football fan, and the New Orleans Saints are our big rivals. But, I gotta give a special hat tip and hearty salute to the Home Defense Foundation of New Orleans. Y’all got this right, and you can count on my support, there in Nawlins, and when you expand this citizen endeavor for the protection of individual freedom and self-defense nationwide, I will be your biggest proponent.
