Remember how last week the media was aflame with stories about Donald Trump’s campaign going down in flames? There were stories of an “intervention” being staged by Newt Gingrich and Rudy Giuliani in order to beg Trump to get back on message. The was rancor from RNC chair Reince Priebus over Trump’s refusal to endorse House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senator John McCain in their reelection campaigns where both face primary challengers.

Well, as of last night, the GOP can breathe a collective sigh of relief as Trump has publicly announced his endorsements of both candidates.

AP reports, GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump is striking a rare tone of party unity.

Trump has formally endorsed House Speaker Paul Ryan, after saying he wasn’t ready to do so earlier this week.

Trump made the announcement during a campaign stop Friday in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

He says, “I support and endorse our Speaker of the House Paul Ryan,” adding that while they “may disagree on a couple of things,” they agree on a lot as well.

In addition to formally endorsing House Speaker Paul Ryan, Trump on Friday evening also threw his support behind Arizona Sen. John McCain and New Hampshire Sen. Kelly Ayotte, with whom he has sparred.

Trump says, “We have to unite.”

He says that, as president, he will need a Republican Senate and House to accomplish all of the changes he wants to make.

He adds that, “This campaign is not about me or any one candidate,” and says: “We will have disagreements. But we will disagree as friends and never stop working together toward victory.”

WHEW. Now we can put that little mess behind us (along with the matter of Khizr Khan) and focus on the priority of defeating Hillary Clinton.
