GOP governor candidate WINS the internet with awesome 4th of July ad…

With special elections behind us, all eyes have turned to Virginia’s gubernatorial election. Since Democrat Governor Terry McAuliffe is term-limited, the race offers Republicans a chance to pick up another victory in a crucial swing state ahead of the midterm elections.

Of course, winning in a state like Virginia isn’t easy. As the date of the elections nears, GOP candidate Ed Gillespie is locked in a tight race with Democrat candidate Ralph Northam. Although most analysts see the race as a toss-up, polls show that the race currently has a slight Democratic lean. If Gillespie is going to win, he has some ground to make up.

Knowing that, it appears Gillespie plans to light a fire under his campaign. Literally. In doing so, he may have created the best campaign ad we’ve seen in a long time.

From Bizpac Review:

Republican gubernatorial candidate Ed Gillespie knows how to appeal to Virginians; let them blow things up.

Gillespie released a campaign ad leading up to the Fourth of July promising to make fireworks legal if he is elected to office.

In the spot, the candidate is holding a sparkler while noting that fireworks permitted in Virginia are “rinky-dink,” compared to what neighboring states allow.

Watch:

Naturally, the ad immediately went viral on Twitter:

It may have earned some votes:

The ad was even noticed by former presidential candidate Jeb Bush:

Of course, there’s no better way to win the hearts and minds of Americans than to let them blow some things up. Considering the Declaration of Independence was written by Virginia native Thomas Jefferson, it’s only right that Virginians should be able to celebrate the day in proper style.
