The sheer number of “do as I say, not as I do’s” surrounding Washington liberals these days is so large that the horn on the hypocrisy alert has busted and is beyond repair. From flying around the globe on chartered jets while telling the rest of us to conserve, to claiming ‘guns are the problem’ while living in gun-guarded neighborhoods, to claiming ‘the rich have too much’ while owning multiple houses themselves, it’s a constant epidemic.
The past few days we’re witnessing the latest chapter installment. Washington liberals running around screaming, “Sessions met with the Russians!!” …(who hacked our election)… “Sessions met with the Russians!!”But once again we are finding yet another situation where Democrats are claiming Republicans did something shady, shifty and/or illegal while all along they themselves have been doing the exact same thing.
As it relates to Attorney General Sessions, “the Russian” in question is Sergey Kislyak (pronounced kees-LYACK). Kislyak is the longtime Russian ambassador to the United States and no stranger to Washington politics as the New York Times noted yesterday “He has interacted with American officials for decades and been a fixture on the Washington scene for the past nine years, jowly and cordial with an easy smile and fluent if accented English…”
Among those American officials with whom he has interacted – Barack Obama. And not just once or twice. The Daily Caller is confirming that “Kislyak appeared in the White House visitor logs dozens of times when Barack Obama was in office.” Noting that “The visitor logs, which Obama made public in 2009 in a push for transparency, show that the long-time Russian ambassador to the United States visited the White House at least 22 times between 2009 and 2016.
Kislyak appeared in the logs as recently as September 2016 when he had a meeting scheduled with one of Obama’s senior advisers, John Holdren,… Kislyak was also listed on the logs in July 2016, March 2016, January 2016, August 2015, April 2014, February 2014, May 2013, February 2013, November 2012, December 2011, July 2011, December 2010, October 2010, May 2010, April 2010, February 2010, March 2010, December 2009 and September 2009.”
The entire Sessions/Russia flap was succinctly summarized by Senator Ted Cruz who said of then-Senator Sessions, “He was simply doing his job.”Appearing on an MSNBC show, Cruz added, “Meeting with foreign ambassadors is part of the routine responsibilities of serving in the Senate. My understand is that Jeff met with twenty-five different ambassadors last year.”
Cruz then pulled out a hammer and drove the point home, “Everyone’s in high dudgeon about this meeting. This underlying meeting is a nothingburger. It’s what senators do everyday, meeting with foreign ambassadors. It’s part of the job. The notion that there was something somehow wrong with a senior senator of the Armed Services committee meeting with a foreign ambassador, I think that’s a nothingburger,”
A foreign ambassador meeting with a Senator on the Armed Services committee should be no more eyebrow raising than him meeting with the President, yet somehow Sessions’ two meetings with Kislyak trumps Obama’s twenty-two plus.Calls for Sessions’ resignation are echoing around in liberal circles. The ACLU is already ramping up for perjury charges, all because an elected U.S. official was actually doing his job. Which may explain why the ACLU has never sought similar charges against Obama.
