We had a nail-biting end to the college football season with the dramatic win of Florida State over Auburn in the final 13 seconds. Last week we were enthralled with San Francisco’s last second field goal victory in the frozen tundra of Green Bay. The Indianapolis Colts showed us what a never quit attitude means by coming back from a 38-10 deficit in the second half to win 45-44 over the Kansas City Chiefs. The San Diego Chargers went into a driving freezing rain and defeated the Cincinnati Bengals. And against all the odds, the New Orleans Saints went on the road, not in a dome, and beat the Philadelphia Eagles and their high powered offense. So what will be the surprise game, or games, this week? It is indeed a great lineup for the Divisional playoff round in the NFL as we draw closer to the Super Bowl. The Colts will travel to Foxboro Mass to take on the Patriots pitting two very capable come-from-behind QBs against each other. Will home field make a difference for the Pats? Really close call on this one.
The 49ers head to Charlotte to take on the surging Carolina Panthers led by QB Cam Newton. The game will pit two of the most mobile and exciting young QBs against each other, Colin Kaepernick truly showed his toughness in Green Bay last week. The once seemingly lifeless Chargers have to go back to Mile High Stadium in Denver, where they just recently won, to take on Peyton Manning and the Broncos. We all know that Peyton has a penchant for “choking” in a big game, but I don’t think it will be this weekend. And lastly, Drew Brees and the Saints head back to Seattle where they got a woodshed beatdown earlier in the season to take on the amazing Russell Wilson and the Seahawks. However, it is the “12th Fan'” the amazingly loud Seahawk crowd that could once again make a difference, along with the weather — typical Northwest Pacific chilling rain. Can the Saints pull a repeat on the road, with adverse weather conditions, and continue their march to get back to the Super Bowl?
Well, the stage has been set and I will be in front of the TV with my popcorn. At least my hometown Atlanta Falcons will get a high first round draft pick, hope they choose Jadaveon Clowney out of South Carolina, as we need some boosting of our front four. Hard to believe the Falcons were 14-2 last year and 4-12 this year, ouch, the Dirty Bird needs a shower.
Ok, let’s hear from the West Nation football fans! Who are your picks for this weekend? Show your pride!
