At least one Clinton is still salty about Donald Trump’s victory on November 8th.Chelsea Clinton was among those joining in on the mockery after President Donald Trump criticized Europe’s open-borders policy on refugees. “You look at what’s happening in Germany, you look at what’s happening last night in Sweden. Sweden – who would believe this?.. You look at what’s happening in Brussels, Nice, Paris.”
Most interpreted this to be in reference to a terror attack – one that didn’t actually happen (because he mentioned the attacks in Brussels, Nice, and Paris afterwards).
And if anyone has missed it, NOTHING HAS HAPPENED IN SWEDEN! There is no terrorattack or anything of the sort.— @sweden / Emma (@sweden) February 19, 2017
Chelsea was quick to join in on the mockery:
What happened in Sweden Friday night? Did they catch the Bowling Green Massacre perpetrators?— Chelsea Clinton (@ChelseaClinton) February 19, 2017
No Chelsea, they were dodging Bosnian sniper fire…Of course, all Trump has to do is drop the “last night” part of his statement to have a point. Sweden has been among the most liberal in welcoming in refugees and migrants without doing any vetting, and has seen an explosion in crime and sexual assaults. Just since 2014 the number of Swedes claiming to be sexually assaulted has risen 70 percent (from 1% of the population to 1.7%).
But how do we know it’s migrants are committing those crimes? To give just one statistic, in 2011, 77 percent of rapes reported in Sweden were committed by individuals with a foreign background, mostly from Muslim countries. In fact, in nearly every country on the planet, the majority of rape victims know their attacker. That isn’t the case in Sweden.
But what exactly was Trump referencing? According to the liberals over at Slate, he could have just picked a country out of thin air. Or maybe, the commander in chief was watching Fox News last night. In a segment on Tucker Carlson’s show, journalist Ami Horowitz claimed the Swedish government is covering up rape crimes in order to protect “vulnerable” migrants. “From the onset of the refugee crisis, there was a surge in gun violence and rape—the statistics were clear,” Horowitz said. “But locals there just said ‘it was men, not refugees’ so the majority in Sweden still want to have an open door policy. It’s confounding, really.”
Nothing was said about anything in particular occurring last night, however.
Trump made a gaffe – but don’t let it lead you to believe there are no problems in Sweden.
