Death is an inextricable part of life, as we all know. Yet, we somehow continue to wish it will never come, and are particularly saddened when we lose an important connection to our heritage. In this case, it is Nancy Reagan, former First Lady, and adoring wife of the icon of the conservative movement, Ronald Reagan.
As NBC News reports, Mrs. Reagan died today at the age of 94. She had been in failing health for some time.
The cause of death was congestive heart failure, according to her rep Joanne Drake. “Mrs. Reagan will be buried at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California, next to her husband, Ronald Wilson Reagan, who died on June 5, 2004,” Drake wrote in a statement.
“Prior to the funeral service, there will be an opportunity for members of the public to pay their respects at the Library.”In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Reagan asked that contributions be made to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Foundation at www.reaganlibrary.com, Drake said.
In 2011, you might recall Senator Marco Rubio escorting a very frail Nancy Reagan before he spoke at the Reagan Ranch. Mrs. Reagan slipped and Sen. Rubio gallantly stopped her fall.
Our hearts go out to the Reagan family, and we know there will be tears and kisses as Nancy and her Ronnie are reunited forevermore.
