For Hillary Clinton, the new year isn’t off to such a great start. With polls showing her lead over Bernie Sanders either narrowing or gone (and in New Hampshire, she’s behind), her campaign is justifiably nervous. Even liberal pundits are now admitting the Democrat race isn’t the coronation many expected it to be.
Then of course, there’s the re-emergence of focus on her husband’s chequered past with women — and her own role in it — which not only distracts but significantly weakens her position as a champion of women.Oh yeah, and there’s the new movie, “13 Hours,” which takes a sympathetic view on severe concerns about Hillary Clinton’s handling of the 2011 Benghazi attack that left Americans dead under Obama and Clinton’s watch.
But perhaps most troubling of all for Hillary’s campaign is the news today that the FBI has launched a new front in the investigation into her conduct as secretary of state. In addition to her handling of email, she’s now being investigated for public corruption.
Via The Blaze:The FBI is expanding its investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server during her tenure as secretary of state, Fox News reported Monday morning.
According to the report, the FBI is looking into the possibility that Clinton violated public corruption laws by allowing her work at the State Department to overlap with her work at the non-profit Clinton Foundation. The new probe is in addition to the ongoing investigation into whether or not Clinton knowingly communicated classified information through her non-secure email server.
The agents are investigating the possible intersection of Clinton Foundation donations, the dispensation of State Department contracts and whether regular processes were followed,” an anonymous FBI source told Fox News.According to another source, the FBI has successfully prosecuted previous public corruption cases with “much less evidence” than what the FBI currently has on Clinton. The sources also revealed that the FBI has been investigating the public corruption track since as far back as April.
As Fox News reports, today’s development follows press reports over the past year about the potential overlap of State Department and Clinton Foundation work, and questions over whether donors benefited from their contacts inside the administration.
The Clinton Foundation is a public charity, known as a 501(c)(3). It had grants and contributions in excess of $144 million in 2013, the most current available data. One particularly troubling aspect of the Clinton Foundation intersection with Hillary’s role as secretary of state are the significant sums from foreign governments, including the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Oma. Salon.com reported that “streams of cash” came in from 20 foreign governments who relied on weapons export approvals from Hillary Clinton’s State Department. And, of course, as everyone has long known of Hillary’s intention — and good position to make good on it — of becoming the next president of the United States, it’s highly likely these donors are expecting their donations to buy them future influence as well.
Meanwhile, the probe into Clinton’s email may be looking more ominous for her as well. Fox reports:
Separately, a former high-ranking State Department official emphasized to Fox News that Clinton’s deliberate non-use of her government email address may be increasingly “significant.”
According to that State Department official, because everyone who works for State receives their government email address almost “automatically,” Clinton’s use of a private email was likely planned out prior to her appointment as the United States’ top diplomat.
“It would have taken an affirmative act not to have [an email address assigned],” the official said, “and it would also mean it was all planned out before she took office. This certainly raises questions about the so-called legal advice she claimed to have received from inside the State Department that what she was doing was proper.”
With just 21 days and counting until the primary season kicks into full swing, the timing couldn’t be much worse for the Queen. Despite Democrat establishment efforts to hide Hillary and the rest of their feeble lineup from the public — the less voters know about them, the better their chances, apparently (and who can argue?) — a host of factors are conspiring against her.
2016 may end up not being Hillary’s year after all. The one bright spot for her perhaps? She’s already shown us she likes wearing orange.
