Bernie Sanders makes vile GOP – 9/11 comparison during speech

Sen. Bernie Sanders, a self-proclaimed socialist, went on the warpath Sunday, slamming the Republican health care bill that aims to replace much of Obamacare, by comparing it to 9/11.

A comparison that will not go over well with the average American.

According to the Washington Free Beacon:

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.) on Sunday attacked the Republican health care plan to replace the Affordable Care Act, arguing it would kill more Americans each year than the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

“Now obviously nobody can predict exactly how many people will die if they lose their coverage. Nobody can make that prediction,” Sanders said at a rally in Morgantown, W.Va. “But what experts at the Harvard School of Public Health estimate, is that if 23 million Americans were to be thrown off the insurance they currently have, which is what the House bill would do, up to, up to 28,000 Americans every single year could die.”

Sanders then compared the Republican health care plan to the Sept. 11 terror attacks carried out by al Qaeda that killed nearly 3,000 Americans.

“That is nine times more than the tragic losses we suffered on 9/11, every single year,” Sanders said.

Mortality rates have increased exponentially already, thanks to Obamacare. Research from The Federalist supports this:

What happens when we calculate the death rate after excluding all external causes of morbidity (ICD-10 codes for deaths caused by drugs, alcohol, assault, suicide, and accidents—in short, anything that is not due to an internal illness)? For the decade 2004-2013, the death rate is 247.4 people per 100,000 population. It is more stable than the all-cause death rate, with a low of 244.7, a high of 249.9, and a standard deviation of 1.7.

With Obamacare extending insurance to 15 million more people, this death rate should fall to 238 per 100,000. The 2014-15 data show the actual reported death rate among U.S. adults, excluding external causes, is…252.9.

This is equivalent to an excess 11,000 annual U.S. adult deaths relative to the pre-Obamacare steady state trends, and more than 32,000 annual deaths greater than predicted by academic studies quantifying health benefits from improved insurance coverage.

If we’re going to claim that a health care measure employed by Congress is hazardous to the health of American citizens, we ought to be doing so with Obamacare — a plan that has quantifiably increased the death rate.

The so-called “Affordable” Care Act is a disaster that has done the opposite of its name, making health care far more expensive, as premiums continue to skyrocket.

Perhaps Sanders should do a bit more research next time.
