Environmentalism is a feel-good movement. Actually doing something for the environment is nowhere near as important as feeling like you’re standing on the moral high ground.
How often are we lectured by Al Gore and our friends in Hollywood – but only after they’ve arrived on a private jet? It sure seems like they want everyone ELSE to change.
I stumbled upon the meme below, highlighting the hypocrisy of environmentalists who will attack fracking – but support something much more damaging to the environment: the electric car.
But don’t just take my word for it. According to the National Bureau of Economic Research, electric cars are hardly pollution-free. Seventy percent of the cars electricity is generated from coal and natural gas. According to their research, there’s only twelve states in which an electric car benefits the environment (a good explanation of why is available here, for anyone curious).
And just a random aside: if liberals are going to complain about how the “system” is unfair, why are they subsidizing electric cars? I can’t think of a better way to subsidize the wealthy. After all, I can’t remember the last time I saw a poor person driving a Tesla.[Note: This post was authored by The Analytical Economist]
