According to President Obama, the unlawful enemy combatant detention facility at Guantanamo Bay has to be closed because it is a recruiting tool for Islamic jihadists. Unless you’re truly living in an alternate universe, you can’t begin to comprehend or accept such insanity. Moreover, if the conflagration against Islamic jihadism has ended, as President Obama has declared, then what are Islamic jihadists recruiting for anyway?
Here is the truth as reported by Reuters:
The number of former Guantanamo Bay prison inmates who are suspected of having returned to fighting for militants doubled to 12 in the six months through January, the Obama administration said on Monday.
The increase could fuel Republican attacks on Democratic President Barack Obama’s plan to close the U.S. military prison in Cuba, which has come to symbolize aggressive detention practices following the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks and opened the United States to accusations of torture. Most detainees have been held without trial for more than a decade.
The closure plan, drawn up by the Pentagon and which requires approval by Congress, proposes 13 potential sites on U.S. soil to hold 30-60 detainees in maximum-security prisons.
According to figures released by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), as of Jan. 15 the United States also had confirmed that seven out of 144 Guantanamo prisoners who were freed since Obama took office in January 2009 have returned to fighting. That was up from six since the ODNI’s previous release last July. The ODNI report is released every six months and does not give details on where or for which groups the former detainees are confirmed or suspected to be fighting.
The immediate response from the progressive socialist left will be so what — just seven. Here’s my response, how many of our troops in combat were required to get those seven off that battlefield in the first place? When I think about the fact that this Obama administration is more concerned with releasing Islamic jihadists than our Americans being held in Ft. Leavenworth, like Army 1LT Clint Lorance, it angers me beyond belief. Does anyone believe that if Clint Lorance was released from Ft. Leavenworth he’d return to committing acts of terrorism? No, chances are he’d just go back home to Texas and be embraced in the loving arms of his family. Why is campaign promises and ideology are more important to President Obama than reality? The best recruiting tool for Islamic jihadists is the weakness being exhibited by Barack Obama. The policy of dismissing Islamic jihadism is a great recruiting tool, and to have those released from detention rejoin the jihad serves as an incredible recruiting tool.
The complaint that these individuals are being held without a trial just goes to evidence that there are those who don’t understand the nature of this conflagration, and what an unlawful enemy combatant is. They’re not deserving of any rights. They have taken the battlefield as non-state, non-uniformed belligerents. This is not a law enforcement endeavor where these savage barbarians must be read Miranda rights and given legal representation.
At some point, the message has to be sent that there are only two futures for an Islamic jihadist, death or detention — and both are eternal. As long as their brethren take up the sword against liberty and freedom-loving peoples, their fate is decided by their own hand. There just has to come a time when the Western world finds committed, convicted leaders of moral fiber and principle to stand for our way of life and our value system.
When you consider the decision of German Chancellor Angela Merkel, to which she’s exposed the citizens of Germany, it’s a leadership failure. For French President Hollande to welcome Iranian president Hasan Rouhani — who leads the country that’s the number one state sponsor of Islamic terrorism — and endorse business contracts by Airbus, after the horrific Islamic terrorist attacks in Paris, is unconscionable. For Pope Francis to welcome Rouhani and the Italians, while covering works of art so as not to offend the contingent from the Islamic terrorist state of Iran, it is the reflection of subservience and subjugation.
There are those who will say I’m a war monger simply creating fear. Doggone, I find it unbelievable that we’ve become so weak in America that standing up and confronting evil is castigated in a negative light. What it shows is that there are those in America, indeed across the Western world, who are more interested in survival on their knees than standing for freedom.
GITMO is not a recruiting tool for Islamic jihadists. The displayed weakness and conciliatory nature that this Obama administration has ushered in has been the greatest factor in emboldening our enemy. It’s not indicative of who we are as Americans, and our lineage of rugged toughness that does not succumb, nor surrender. The British SAS has a motto, “Who Dares Wins.”
I say, let us dare to win. And stop cowering in defeat and shame. Somewhere there has to be a Leonidas, a Charles Martel, a Winston Churchill, a Queen Victoria, a Margaret Thatcher, a Golda Meier, a Joshua Chamberlain, a Chesty Puller, a George Patton, and a Ronald Reagan — men and women of fortitude.
