It didn’t take long before the agrieved and disadvantaged members of the Somali Islamic terrorist group al-Shabaab to send a clear message. You remember those fellas who attacked a large mall in Nairobi, Kenya? Yes, I know, we can hardly remember last week unless it has something to do with the Kardashians.
Well, I’m quite certain this will get the attention of the Kardashians and other avid shoppers. Now Islamic terrorists are threatening to attack malls.
I know President Obama stated last week that we’re not at war with Islam, codifying that as an “ugly lie.” He was adamant about not declaring this as some Holy War. I suppose we should just push it aside that during that Kenyan mall attack, the al-Shabaab members reportedly asked patrons if they were Muslim or Christian — and we know what happened to the Christians.
Hey, following along the thought process of Marie Harf, perhaps al-Shabab members were upset because Christians were being hired at the mall? Or maybe because there were sales in stores for Christians only — after all we must embrace their grievances and empathize with the enemy. Ok, that was egregious sarcasm, but it also displays the absurdity of the comments from the Obama administration this past week and the summit on “Countering Violent Extremism.”
As reported by Fox News, “A new video from al-Shabaab purportedly shows the terror group calling for an attack on Mall of America, in Bloomington, Minn. According to Fox 9, the mall is one of three similar targets the terror group specifically names, including West Edmonton Mall in Canada and the Oxford Street shopping area in London. The video purportedly shows 6 minutes of graphic images and the terrorists celebrating the 2013 Westgate Mall attack in Nairobi, Kenya, that killed more than 60 people. “We will continue to monitor events with the help of federal, state and local law enforcement agencies,” Mall of America said in a statement. “As always, we take any potential threat seriously and respond appropriately. Mall of America has implemented extra security precautions, some may be noticeable to guests, and others won’t be. We will continue to follow the situation, along with law enforcement, and will remain vigilant as we always do in similar situations.”Now of course I can already hear all the “Allen West fearmonger” comments but let’s look at this carefully.
The Mall of America is located in a place where countless Somali refugees reside — Minneapolis, Minnesota — the largest concentration of Somalis in America. It is known and has been reported that there have been young Somalis departing and returning to Somalia to fight with al-Shabaab. And worse, there have been at least two individuals who have been found in Syria from the Minneapolis area who were fighting with ISIS. We have proof that al-Shabaab has already executed a savage and heinous Islamic terrorist attack in Kenya. In that attack there were only some 5 terrorist assailants. However, it’s not just the threat, it is about the arrogance and the emboldened state that would enable this group to issue such a threat. The psychological effect is great, as we must take the threat seriously, and treat it as credible. This is part of a struggle for Islamic terrorist viability and status. Why? Because ISIS is the “big dog” on the Islamic jihadist street right now, but al-Qaida wants to restore itself, with whom al-Shabaab is aligned – while Boko Haram has aligned itself with ISIS. This is the strategic world of modern militant Islam which the Obama administration refuses to acknowledge — resulting in very enticing perceived weakness.
But lets dare not say anything about “profiling” — which is better termed as trend analysis. There is a reason why al-Shabaab chose the Mall of America and not Lenox Square in Atlanta. They know there are willing foot soldiers to carry out this demonic plan.
As Fox News reports, “Al Shabaab, Somalia’s Islamic extremist rebels, claimed responsibility for a Friday attack on a hotel in Somalia’s capital that killed 25 people and wounded 40, the country’s government said Saturday. One Islamic extremist rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into the gate of the Central Hotel, and another went in and blew himself up, a statement from Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke’s office said.”
Government officials were meeting at the Central Hotel at the time, and the statement said Mogadishu’s deputy mayor and two legislators were among the dead. It was unclear whether the government’s report of 25 dead included the two bombers. Despite the loss of key strongholds in Somalia, al-Shabaab, which is linked to al-Qaida, continues to stage attacks in the capital, Mogadishu, and elsewhere. Somalia’s president, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, condemned the attack and said it would not derail efforts by his government to restore peace to Somalia, which is recovering from decades of war.”
Our strategic reticence means we do not see what is unfolding: the rejection of secular governance in the Islamic world in favor of a global jihadist Islamic caliphate. Sadly, under our dismissive noses, this is beginning to take shape, extending from West Africa to the Maghreb to East Africa and the foundation of which is being established between Syria and Iraq.
Those who would rather put their heads in the sand are exposing a certain part of their anatomy which is not recommended. And this enemy knows they’ve been given a gift by President Obama and his failed foreign policy of withdrawing all troops from Iraq – after all, within a year later he had to redeploy troops. Obama’s reelection let the Islamic jihadists know they have at least four years of potentially uncontested action and they are moving with utmost speed. ISIS has affiliates in some 12 different countries.
And I believe we are all finally in common agreement that al-Qaida has not been decimated and is certainly not on the run.
What must we do? First of all, stop excusing away who and what this enemy is all about — their violence is rooted in Islam. With that being said, we must form a new global alliance of nations willing to stem the tide of Islamic totalitarianism and fascism. And we have alliances with nations such as Egypt, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, and the Kurdish Regional Government who want nothing to do with militant Islam. There are many peace-loving “moderate Muslims” here in the U.S. and the world who would stand with us — if they knew we in America were steadfast in our resolve.
Western civilization has a target on its back and yet we have elected officials too concerned about what they don’t want to say or be said — instead of simply saying what needs to be said. This is not about understanding grievances. It is about understanding that militant Islam has once again declared war. Shall we meet them on this ideological battlefield, or cower and allow ourselves to be “struck about the neck?”
I, and I believe many of you, choose the former. Molon Labe!
