We reported previously here about the use by ISIS of social media to threaten our U.S. military personnel and their families, which appears to be a tactic in full force. ISIS has learned the progressive socialist tactic of “trolls” — something about which I’m quite familiar — to flood a website or Facebook account with vile and insidious comments.
It normally begins with some leftist central command, such as Media Matters or Daily Kos, to issue a call of attack — and the mindless lemmings follow, normally completely devoid of any knowledge or understanding of a topic. It is the leftist progressive tactic of instilling fear, coercion and intimidation. And ISIS is following suit, using the exact same tactics.
As reported by the UK Daily Mail, “a member of the United States Air Force and his family were subjected to a campaign of harassment by ISIS supporters over social media after posting pictures of operations in Iraq, according to counter-terrorism sources. The airman, who has not been named, was sent threats and hateful messages online in a ‘co-ordinated campaign by terrorist sympathizers to intimidate military members and their families’.
“His son, in his early teens, was also targeted in the attack, which consisted of a deluge of insulting messages referring to the pair as kuffar (an insulting term for non-Muslims) and infidels.”
We now have a new front in the battle against Islamo-fascism and jihadism that reaches deep into the fabric of our country, and indeed the world — social media. There can be no doubt that the cyber world enables dark figures to hide and become “sniper-like” in issuing threats and attacks. And therefore, it is my sincere hope that every single IP address can be ascertained who joined in on this call from ISIS.
As Fox News writes, “The Facebook pages of an Air Force service member and his son were “swarmed” by offensive messages after Islamic State sympathizers urged followers to target them online, a source tells Fox News – a virtual attack that coincided with an Army bulletin warning ISIS may try to track down military families on social media. The Army intelligence bulletin, obtained by Fox News, had warned that Islamic State militants were calling on supporters to scour social media for addresses of U.S. military family members and “show up [at their homes] and slaughter them.” The assessment urged U.S. military personnel to be vigilant.”I’m sure there are folks who ask “so what?” Here is the answer. A counterterrorism source described to Fox News how one military family was targeted around the same time. “The Facebook pages were then “swarmed” with derogatory messages such as kafir, or non-believer, in an online flash-mob-style attack. “This is the real deal,” the counterterrorism source said, referring to the posts. “They want to find them [U.S. military], raise their profile, in the eyes of a potential ‘lone wolf.'” The militants apparently encouraged others to join in the digital harassment. A post on one ISIS-linked Twitter account, translated for Fox News, said: “We have a raid on an American pilot account at 9:00 evening Mecca time who is participating in the crusaders’ bombing. Retweet this if you are ready to be part of the raid.”
The last thing we need to have happen in America is a repeat of the barbaric attack of British soldier Lee Rigby while he was walking back to his barracks. Needless to say, our Second Amendment rights in America reduce that possibility — but then you have progressive socialists in some states doing all they can to erode that right. I’m quite sure Michael Bloomberg has an entourage of security surrounding him 24/7 — yet he is on his own little personal “jihad” against our gun rights. In response to the ISIS social media threat, Fox reports “a threat assessment from the Army’s Threat Integration Center was released in late September. The bulletin warned Army commands worldwide that service members should limit the number of people with access to their social media profiles after ISIS called on its supporters to use the Yellow Pages and Facebook to track down addresses.”
It is imperative that our citizenry take these threats to heart — the Obama administration clearly doesn’t — as it still refers to Nidal Hasan’s actions as “workplace violence” as well as Alton Nolen’s jihadst attack in Moore, Oklahoma. However, we must not allow these threats to cause us to censor ourselves — which is the goal of the “troll” threats. We must be vigilant and aware and ready to take action against any suspicious activity. Remember it was an armed civilian in Moore who stopped Nolen’s savage rampage.
Our men and women in uniform take an oath to serve and protect our freedoms, liberties, and rights as enshrined in the Constitution. It is a sad day when they must now stand and fight for the safety and security of their own families here at home. It’s time we traced this enemy to its gathering places and destroy it wherever it rears its ugly head.
