Recent polls suggest that terrorism has come back as a top issue for Americans — right up there with jobs and the economy. The point is that regardless of how prosperous we can be as a nation, it means little if you don’t feel secure. That’s the sad truth in our post 9-11 world — a world where the staff of a satirical newspaper was slaughtered when they sat down for a staff meeting. It’s a world where one of its most ancient Christian communities was driven from its ancestral home. It is a world where little Nigerian girls are kidnapped and used as suicide bombers. It is a world where a 7th century barbaric practice — beheading — has become a part of our 21st century existence.
Just a year ago our President Barack Hussein Obama referred to a small growing militant Islamic group as a “jayvee” team. They now control a huge swath of territory in Syria and Iraq the size of Great Britain and call themselves the Islamic State.
ISIS has grown stronger, bolder and more deadly – with horrific plans beyond comprehension. A German reporter who survived 10 days embedded with ISIS says they are enthusiastically planning to kill hundreds of millions of people.
In August of 2014, Obama stated they would be degraded, defeated and destroyed — hardly the case. A year later, will the crisis with ISIS be a part of the conversation during the State of the Union address this evening? If not, the message of Obama’s silence on the issue will speak volumes — loudly.
As reported by Breitbart.com, “Jurgen Todenhofer, the first Western reporter to embed with Islamic State fighters and not be killed in the process, spoke to Al Jazeera about his time with the terror group. Todenhofer lived side by side with the jihadist fighters for ten days in the Islamic State-stronghold city of Mosul, Iraq. He was accompanied only by his son, who served as his cameraman.”“I always asked them about the value of mercy in Islam,” but “I didn’t see any mercy in their behavior,” explained Todenhofer. He added, “Something that I don’t understand at all is the enthusiasm in their plan of religious cleansing, planning to kill the non-believers… They also will kill Muslim democrats because they believe that non-ISIL-Muslims put the laws of human beings above the commandments of God.”
“The German reporter then elaborated on how shocked he was about how “willing to kill” the ISIS fighters are. He said that they were ready to commit genocide. “They were talking about [killing] hundreds of millions. They were enthusiastic about it, and I just cannot understand that,” said Todenhofer.”I can understand it clearly — no one is standing up to them. We are not leveraging the entire might of the world against this cancer of Islamic militancy. These are the followers of the post 622 AD — Medina phase onward — of Islam. And please “islamapologists,” spare me the excuse-a-minute diatribe. Where is the UN Resolution condemning and bringing together a compact for a force to destroy ISIS? After all, it seems very easy for the UN to issue condemnation after condemnation against Israel.
The problem, reflected by Todenhofer, is that we in the West simply cannot fathom the level of depravity and lack of human regard for life that exists in these Islamic jihadists — warriors for Allah. They simply see the world in two parts — Dar-al-Islam and Dar-al-Harb, basically us and them.
And yes, they will kill those Muslims who are viewed as impure (Shiites) and secular who have not placed the Koran as the rule of law. They do not accept the principles of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness because they refuse to embrace governance as embodied in declarations written by man — Magna Carta, Declaration of Independence, or the U.S .Constitution.
This is why we have these “Sharia Controlled Zones” referred to as “No-Go Zones” as my wife Angela brilliantly articulated in her piece from Sunday. And we have stealth jihad organizations within Western civilization that pressure us to self-censor and live in silent acceptance of that which is the antithesis of our existence.
As well, we dismiss this enemy as we refuse to define it. A year ago ISIS was a small terrorist group of less than 3,000 fighters. Things are different now.
“Todenhofer warned that the Islamic State “is much stronger than we think,” and that their recruiting has brought motivated jihadis from across the globe. “Each day, hundreds of new enthusiastic fighters are arriving,” explained Todenhofer. “There is an incredible enthusiasm that I have never seen in any other war zones I have been to.”
Where are the global policies that stop the flow of these jihadist fighters who have no respect for borders and boundaries? How is it that we have not sealed our own southern border at this critical time? Are we serious about stemming the flow of financial resources to ISIS — we know it’s flowing from Qatar, Turkey, and through oil revenues. And no, there’s no strategy — heck, I’m not even discussing Boko Haram.
Do I believe in a state of perpetual war? Nope, but if the enemy believes in a state of perpetual war, Dar-al-Harb, well, their reality becomes my own, until I defeat their will.
Carl von Clausewitz stated, “Pursue one great decisive aim with force and determination.” It would be ideal to hear a decisive aim with determination articulated in the State of the Union address. Maybe it will happen at the Obama administration conference on extremism, but I ain’t holding my breath.
