I find it truly unconscionable that we have an American president who fails to understand our system of three coequal branches of government, separation of powers, and checks and balances. The system of governance for our Constitutional Republic stresses that the branch with the most enumerated powers is the legislative branch. And the executive branch executes the laws passed and signed by the legislative branch — meaning we have a legislative process — governance as granted by the consent of the governed — not rule by edict or executive order.
Law and policy come from the prescribed legislative process as outlined in our U.S. Constitution, our rule of law. Law and policy does not come from a president who wants his political way — and so it is with the topic of illegal immigration. And the so-called “comprehensive immigration” bill passed in Harry Reid’s Senate is again almost 2,000 pages that I guarantee most Senators didn’t read or understand. As well, it contains many a counter measure allowing the Department of Homeland Security to supersede and counter some specific portions — more rule of the bureaucratic state.
If President Obama were so intent on solving the illegal immigration issue in America, he could have simply done so in his first two years when he had complete — supermajority — control of the White House, House of Representatives, and the U.S. Senate. He said it was a goal in his first term — another broken promise, another blatant lie.And now, after the Democrat debacle in the midterm election cycle — and there is still one more Senate race to be completed in Louisiana — it seems President Barack Hussein Obama will truly enact immigration policy in America unilaterally via executive order fiat…another violation of our Constitution, Article 1, Section 8, Clause 4, “The Congress shall have Power To…establish an uniform Rule of Naturalization….”
According to Fox News, “President Obama is planning to unveil a 10-part plan for overhauling U.S. immigration policy via executive action — including suspending deportations for millions — as early as next Friday, a source close to the White House told Fox News. The president’s plans were contained in a draft proposal from a U.S. government agency. The source said the plan could be announced as early as Nov. 21, though the date might slip a few days pending final White House approval.”
“Obama was briefed at the White House by Homeland Security officials before leaving on his Asia-Pacific trip last week, Fox News has learned. White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest told reporters traveling with Obama in Burma Thursday that the president had not made a final decision on any executive actions concerning immigration and would not announce any until he returned to Washington.”Remember when John Podesta, the former head of the far left policy think tank, Center for American Progress left for the White House as a special advisor to the President? We discussed that here and pointed out that Podesta — a former Bill Clinton senior staffer — had executive orders as a particular area of expertise. It’s not the number of executive orders but the content. It is beyond the scope of Obama’s responsibilities to suspend deportations — but you can bet that Podesta and others have found a way to make it seem within his purview. Basically Obama is pardoning illegal activity — just the same as we now have tens of thousands of illegals dispersed throughout America from this past summer’s episode.
If Obama continues down the path of issuing these executive orders and purposefully granting amnesty, you can bet that the first casualty will be Democrat Senator Mary Landrieu in Louisiana. Now, of course without a Democrat House and Senate, Obama will find out how simple it is for Congress to defund any executive branch agency tied to this lawlessness and unlawful action.President Obama must realize in January, he no longer has Harry Reid blocking legislation from being voted on in the Senate and reaching his desk. And if Obama vetoes a legislative measure cutting funding to amnesty-funded illegal immigrants — he will have to explain – as will the entire Democrat Party. And after what happened this past summer, almost 75 percent of Americans are against amnesty. As well, any potential Democrat presidential candidate will have to take a position for or against Obama on illegal immigration.
Obama’s threat to do what he wants if Congress doesn’t pass something he wants by the end of the year is not how our legislative process works.
Fox says, “Obama’s draft plan contains 10 initiatives that span everything from boosting border security to improving pay for immigration officers. But the most controversial pertain to the millions who could get a deportation reprieve under what is known as “deferred action.” The plan calls for expanding deferred action for illegal immigrants who came to the U.S. as children — but also for the parents of U.S. citizens and legal permanent residents. The latter could allow upwards of 4.5 million illegal immigrant adults with U.S.-born children to stay, according to estimates.”
Again, Obama doesn’t seem to understand he doesn’t control the purse strings of the United States — the House of Representatives does. Now, if Obama were focused on policy and not intransigent ideological stances, he would work on a phased immigration bill that starts with border security and the deportation of criminal illegal immigrants — this extension of deferred action to illegal parents is the typical liberal progressive socialist attempt to make the emotional plea. But that dawg don’t hunt this time, not when millions of middle income Americans are struggling, out-of-work, working two or three part time jobs, all with their wages being depressed.
Barack Hussein Obama had every opportunity to rectify and solve the immigration issue in his first two years — as with many other policy points, he failed to do so. It is almost as if an obtuse and belligerent President Obama is doing this because his policies were essentially rejected during the midterm elections. Pettiness rules of retribution are not means by which one governs. They are however character traits of an egomaniacal, narcissistic dictator — focused on their way, not the advancement of growth, opportunity, promise, and the adherence to the rule of law.
