We have met the enemy, and it’s us.For those who thought a GOP controlled House and Senate would mean a reversal of the disastrous Obama-era social engineering policies for our military, you were sadly wrong. What happened yesterday in the House of Representatives means that we have embraced a very dangerous path.
As reported over at — it’s ok — CNN:
The House on Thursday defeated a proposal that would have prevented the Pentagon from funding gender reassignment surgeries for service members.
The amendment failed in a 209-214 vote, with 24 Republicans voting against it.The provision from Rep. Vicky Hartzler was an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act to block the military from paying for gender reassignment surgery or hormone therapy for both service members and their families.
In 2016, then-Defense Secretary Ash Carter ended the ban on transgender people being able to serve openly in the military.
Carter put in place a process to occur in stages, and Defense Secretary Jim Mattis was facing a July 1 deadline on whether to allow new recruits who were transgender. At the urging of the military service leaders, Mattis announced that he was delaying that decision for six months to study the issue further.
But Mattis called Hartzler on Thursday to urge her to withdraw the amendment from the defense bill, two senior congressional sources told CNN. A Pentagon official confirmed that the call occurred.Hartzler, a Missouri Republican, argued the Pentagon should not be paying for costly surgeries when it’s struggling with tight budgets and readiness problems.
“There are many problems, but funding transition surgeries with tax dollars is problematic because the surgery is very costly,” Hartzler said. “Surgical recovery time decreases the deployability of our soldiers, and funding transition surgeries means diverting money from other defense priorities.
Rep. Duncan Hunter, a California Republican and Marine veteran, said the amendment wasn’t preventing transgender people from serving, but said any gender transition should happen before someone enlists.
Democrats objected to the amendment as discriminatory and a step backwards from the repeal of “Don’t ask, don’t tell” that allowed gay and lesbian service members to serve openly.
Both House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Minority Whip Steny Hoyer spoke out against the amendment.
“Make no mistake, the effect and the intent of this unjust and mean-spirited amendment is to ban patriotic Americans from serving our country,” Pelosi said. “They are fighting to rip away the health care of thousands of brave service members.”
Let me explain this in simple terms: 24 Republicans voted with progressive socialists, telling the American taxpayer that they will be paying for gender reassignment surgeries for individuals suffering from a mental condition called gender dysphoria.
This cost could run into the billions of dollars as part of an insidious social engineering foray. It means that the American taxpayer will be on the hook for upwards of $33K for surgeries to individuals who have made a personal decision to alter themselves.
This comes at a time when our military readiness — the true mission of our military — is in jeopardy, due to lack of maintenance of our major capabilities, especially our air combat fleet, which we have reported on often here.
These elected chuckleheads just told you, the American taxpayer, it is more important to fund gender reassignment surgery than to improve the readiness of our military, and protect the men and women — not confused folks — who serve and protect us.
But what I despise more than anything else, are the two…well, there are no words: Pelosi and Hoyer, who NEVER exhibited this much concern about the health care of our Veterans. I cannot recall any speech delivered on the House floor by either of these individuals that addressed the dire situation of our military readiness.
I am sick of this acquiescing to some special interest group demanding accommodation by the American taxpayer for their mental condition. Who is demanding better resourcing of our military? Who is demanding better care of our military families and service members?
I am sick of the fact that we are making victims again, such as was done for Bradley Manning, a traitor, now released from prison, just because he had a mental condition called gender dysphoria.
I am sick that our men and women in uniform — instead of having adequate training resources to enable them to prepare to defeat the global Islamic jihad, and deter the aggression of Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea — are sitting around having training classes on “gossiping about transgender troops.”
It is beyond belief, unconscionable actually, that we have a SecDef that requested Rep. Hartzler withdraw her amendment from the Defense bill. I am starting to believe that “Mad Dog” is a liberal progressive puppy dog.
I would have absolutely voted in favor of Rep. Hartzler’s amendment. It’s not “mean-spirited” — the common progressive socialist rally cry about anything that counters their inane social egalitarian ideological agenda.
To have 24 Republicans vote against Rep. Hartzler’s amendment? Well, needless to say, they have identified themselves for potential challenge.
Nothing has changed.
It would appear that we might as well have voted in Hillary Clinton, and kept Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer as House and Senate leaders. There was no need to change out Ash Carter as SecDef, either.
When you get those funding solicitations from the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), perhaps you will remember this vote.
The message is clear: join the US military and we will pay for the free exercise of your mental illness. This is wrong on so many levels, and I will continue to speak out against this.
And you can bet, come six months from now, SecDef James Mattis will extend a welcome to transgender recruits who will have all their issues paid for by the American taxpayer.
