The University of Missouri suffered some fairly big losses after enrollment declined due to charges of racism in 2015, so the school attempted to make up for this disaster by renting dorm rooms to visitors to the campus during football season. Now they’re being forced to cut 400 jobs and close seven dorms, all due to caving to the demands of the Black Lives Matter Movement.
The Daily Wire is reporting, You might expect that the decline in enrollment occurred primarily among whites, after the flimsily-supported racism charges of 2015 resulted in the resignation of the university’s president; The Daily Wire reported, “Many parents and alumni responded by refusing to contribute money to the public university. For example, donations to its athletics department dropped 72 percent last year.”
But here’s the big surprise: as the Times notes: “Students of all races have shunned Missouri, but the drop in freshman enrollment last fall was strikingly higher among blacks, at 42 percent, than among whites, at 21 percent.”
Mun Choi, the new University of Missouri System president, told the Times, “The general consensus was that it was because of the aftermath of what happened in November 2015. There were students from both in-state and out-of-state that just did not apply, or those who did apply but decided not to attend.”Among those losing their jobs over this mess is non-tenured faculty members, because heaven forbid crappy professors actually get fired based off poor performance.
The lesson to be learned from this situation is that political correctness and bowing the knee to an oversensitive left-wing culture that sees racism behind every thought, word, and deed, is hazardous to your success.
One has to wonder how much more it’s going to take before people stand up, say enough is enough, and get back to the principles that allow for freedom of speech, thought, and action, so our society can get back to the business of prosperity.[This article was written by Steve Parker]
