COINCIDENCE? Obama warns against “nationalism” — as Americans prepare to celebrate Independence Day

Unlike any American president in recent memory, Barack Obama has wasted no time in making his return to politics and putting in his own two cents on the current state of affairs. In his latest appearance in Jakarta, Indonesia before the Fourth Congress of Indonesian Diaspora, Obama wasted no time in critiquing his successor’s policy of putting ‘America First’ as an affront to peace, tolerance and stability.

From Breitbart:

“What we will see is more and more people arguing against democracy, we will see more and more people who are looking to restrict freedom of the press, and we’ll see more intolerance, more tribal divisions, more ethnic divisions, and religious divisions and more violence.”

“We start seeing a rise in sectarian politics, we start seeing a rise in an aggressive kind of nationalism, we start seeing both in developed and developing countries an increased resentment about minority groups and the bad treatment of people who don’t look like us or practice the same faith as us. We start seeing discrimination against people based on race or ethnicity or religion.”

Obama then chided the administration’s plans to withdraw from the Paris Climate Accord but hinted that such a move may not happen so soon.

From the Guardian:

“First of all, I think it’s important that even though the current US administration has signaled it is going to pull out, technically it’s not out yet.”

“Point 2 is that many of the changes that we locked in during my administration will continue.”

“Even with the temporary absence of American leadership, [the accord] can still give our children a fighting chance.”

Obama, who many pundits coined as putting the United States in a position of “leading from behind” is simply rehashing the past eight years of his presidency. During that period, our country saw unprecedented division and violence with the rise of Black Lives Matter, the rise of the Islamic State and the targeting of conservative groups by the IRS. The Paris Climate Accord is yet another example of liberals relegating the national interest to second fiddle.

Let’s just wait and see if Obama’s pokes and prods have any effect in the court of public opinion. They certainly didn’t matter in 2016.
