The leadership of the Democrat Party has an identity problem. Though they constantly brand themselves the party of inclusion and the party of youth, the fact of the matter is if you ask Joe American to name some prominent Democrats the list is pretty much just old white elitists from the coasts. John Kerry, Hillary Clinton, Diane Feinstein, Bernie Sanders, Chuck Schumer, Joe Biden, Elizabeth Warren, etc. It’s a problem that reared its head in the 2016 presidential campaign and seemed ready to make a reappearance come the 2019 go around. But alas a familiar face from the Obama years has popped onto the radar and it’s one that can finally add some youth and color to the Democrat lineup. Except…
Obama’s first attorney general, Eric Holder, has popped up and dropped his name into the mix as a potential contender for the top of the Democrat ticket in 2020. According to the Daily Caller, “Former Attorney General Eric Holder is moving away from a behind-the-scenes role and is considering running for president in 2020, according to a Tuesday report from Yahoo News.”
And what would a Dem press announcement be without breaking out the race card?
“Up to now, I have been more behind-the-scenes. But that’s about to change. I have a certain status as the former attorney general. A certain familiarity as the first African-American attorney general,” Holder told Yahoo News. “There’s a justified perception that I’m close to President Obama. So I want to use whatever skills I have, whatever notoriety I have, to be effective in opposing things that are, at the end of the day, just bad for the country.”So much for that whole ‘judging not by skin color but by the content of character’ thing. Holder says he’s been awakened by Hillary’s status as a loser and provides early hints at what his campaign platform might be. Its not hard to guess: “Trump” and “resist.”
“The former attorney general has been working against Trump administration initiatives ranging from crackdowns on illegal immigration to increased prosecutions of drug dealers.
Holder further explained that Hillary Clinton’s loss inspired him to step into the spotlight.“I thought, frankly, along with everybody else, that after the election, with Hillary Clinton as president, I could walk off the field,” the former attorney general elaborated. “So when she didn’t win, I thought, ‘We’ll have to see how this plays out.’ But it became clear relatively soon — and certainly sooner than I expected — that I had to get back on the field and be in effective opposition.”
The former attorney general who is from Washington is seeking to use California as a launching pad for his political ambitions. he said, “California is in so many ways a trendsetter, whether it is in pop culture or in politics.”Catch that last sentence? These people truly believe that California is reflective of the rest of the nation. They really do.
You’d think Dems would be learning by now that no real other message than “resist Trump” isn’t working. That the American people elected this president for a reason and they have to come with a positive message and vision of their own, not just “Trump sucks” and “everything Trump does sucks.”
But they insist on staying in their echo chambers listening to themselves rather than the nation. Echo chambers like, oh, California.
