As we’ve said for probably the millionth time now: nobody expected “love trumping hate” to be so violent. We were warned by geniuses in the media (the same geniuses who never saw Hillary’s loss coming) that Donald Trump’s rhetoric would lead to a surge in violence across the nation – and technically they were right, it’s just that it’s been coming exclusively from their side.
Just hours ago a man opened fire on a group of Republican lawmakers and their staff as they practiced for a charity baseball game. Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) left early, right before the shooting, and believes that he spoke with the gunman briefly before the shooting. “There was a guy that walked up to us that was asking whether it was Republicans or Democrats out there,” DeSantis said. “It was just a little odd, and then he kind of walked toward the area where all this happened.”
The shooter has since been identified as James T. Hodgkinson, and his internet footprint is enough to suggest a motive. Below is just a small sampling of his Facebook posts:
As for what else we know about the man, according to Heavy.com, Hodgkinson, 66, is from Belleville, Illinois, the newspaper reports. A motive for the shooting is not yet known, but Hodgkinson’s Facebook page shows someone who had a high interest in politics, who supported Bernie Sanders during the presidential election and expressed anger with President Donald Trump and Republican Congressmen.
Hodgkinson is in critical condition at a local hospital, CNN reports. The gunman was shot by two Capitol Hill Police officers who were at the scene as a security detail for Rep. Steve Scalise, the House Majority Whip, who was among those shot. The two police officers were also wounded, along with a staffer for Rep. Roger Williams of Texas and a lobbyist. Scalise and the officers are expected to survive.
Alexandria Police Chief Michael Brown said his officers and Capitol Police officers exchanged fire with the gunman.
Sources told CNN it was a “deliberate attack.”
It’ll be interesting to see how far-left (and mainstream) outlets cover this. When the shooter is a white male, the left despises any talk of “lone wolf,” but now that it’s one of their own, it’s not hard to imagine they’ll embrace the “lone wolf white male” label and won’t demand Bernie Sanders answer for him as they would undoubtedly do if a Trump supporter went around shooting Democrat lawmakers.
