We learned from James Comey yesterday that Huma Abedin was just as careless with classified information as her boss, Hillary Clinton. Comey confirmed that Huma Abedin sent classified information to Anthony Weiner on numerous occasions. When asked whether or not Comey believed that Weiner had viewed the classified information, Weiner tried to pretend that the only reason Huma had sent it to him was so that he could print it out for her. When pressed on whether or not any laws were broken, Comey trotted out the same nonsense about needing to prove they intended to break the law (which hasn’t been part of the criteria in the past for those charged with mishandling classified information).
Giving his reaction on MSNBC’s Morning Joe this morning, Democrat Sen. Richard Blumenthal called for a special prosecutor to investigate Huma. Co-anchor Willie Geist asked Blumenthal if he believed there was a crime committed, to which he responded, “if there was classified information and it was improperly passed to a person unauthorized to receive it, yes, it’s a crime. Without knowing what the intentions were and so forth, there is potentially a prosecutable crime.”
Joe Scarborough chimed in, asking, “should it have been prosecuted?” Blumenthal replied, “It still may be potentially. It’s not outside the statute of limitations. Who will decide it? That’s why we need a special prosecutor to review all of this investigative material.”
If Huma does end up being charged, it’ll be interesting to hear the explanation for why Hillary Clinton wasn’t charged as well.
