Conservative powerhouse Ann Coulter just dropped a major bomb on fans of the First Amendment by announcing that she was likely going to cancel her appearance at the University of California, Berkeley this Thursday.Liberal students at the school have been foaming at the mouth over Coulter coming to speak at their not-so-fine educational institution, with many leftwing groups threatening to protest the event.
And we know how lefties protest, right? Riots, and looting, and violence, oh my!
It seems the uptick in tension is behind the reason for the cancellation.
According to The Hill, Conservative firebrand Ann Coulter says she will likely cancel her Thursday appearance at the University of California, Berkeley, over persistent security concerns.Coulter told The New York Times on Wednesday that she felt like she was left without adequate support from law enforcement officials, who said they could guarantee her safety amid threats of violence.
“It’s a sad day for free speech,” she told The Times. “Everyone who should believe in free speech fought against it or ran away.”
Coulter said that she would attempt to deliver a speech at a public plaza at Berkeley despite the university canceling her first planned event earlier in the month in the face of student objections. The Young America’s Foundation and Berkeley College Republicans, who invited the conservative pundit to campus, sued the university this week over its treatment of her.
According to the Times, however, the foundation on Tuesday decided it would no longer participate.“Young America’s Foundation will not jeopardize the safety of its staff or students,” the group said.
This is the second event in the last several months to be cancelled due to lockdowns and protests.
This, my fellow Americans, is what leftwing “tolerance” looks like. They only tolerate those who just so happen to think the same way they do, who share the same ideology they’ve adopted.
While on the surface this seems like a loss, in reality, the left’s reaction to Coulter and other conservative speakers like Ben Shapiro is all but a confession of defeat by the other side.
This is why conservatives must stay the course.
