Liberals, who by nature love illegal immigration with all their hearts, have never been fond of the folks charged with defending the border and who bust the lawbreakers entering our country illegally.Their feelings toward these enforcers are once again being made abundantly clear as they’re going after those fine people at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency, attempting to strip their identification as “police.”
Which, of course, makes absolutely no sense, considering their very job is to “police” our borders.
According to Breaking 911:
Officers and agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, have, for years, worn jackets and vests bearing the words “POLICE ICE.” They identify themselves as police officers when they knock on doors in search of undocumented immigrants. The use of the label has long been criticized by immigration attorneys, who say the practice is unethical and sometimes illegal, particularly when it involves tricking people into revealing their relatives’ whereabouts.
But lawmakers have largely ignored the issue. Until now.
A House bill introduced Thursday would bar ICE agents and officers from wearing clothing that bears the label “police.” It also would affect agents and officers with U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The bill’s author, Rep. Nydia M. Velázquez, D-N.Y., argues that the practice is “deceptive” and could discourage people from reporting crime to their local police because of fears they’ll be reported to federal authorities for deportation.
“It could trick families into opening their doors to agents from ICE without a warrant,” Velázquez told The Washington Post. “There’s not going to be a lot of trust between the police and the communities.”Sarah Rodriguez, an ICE spokeswoman, told CNN that “police” is “the universally recognized term for law enforcement.”
“Our personnel routinely interact with individuals from around the world,” she said. “In the often dangerous law enforcement arena, being able to immediately identify yourself as law enforcement may be a life-or-death issue.”
It just so happens that Velazquez isn’t a big fan of President Trump, stating that his presence in the White House has caused an increase in hate crime and rhetoric, which, according to her brilliant analysis, didn’t exist under Obama.
Maybe it was because he just let folks waltz right through our nation’s front door?
The timing of this legislation seems oh-so-convenient, especially as Trump has recently empowered ICE agents to more actively pursue illegal immigrants.
This has nothing to do with preserving the integrity of the law. It’s all about sticking it to the new president while also appealing to illegals to get them to vote in future elections.
Most American citizens support legal immigration and want the brightest, sharpest minds and hardest workers to come here to create businesses and jobs.
We must defend our borders and ICE agents help to accomplish that mission. They totally deserve the designation as “police.”
