Lib Chicago mayor touts new requirement for students to graduate, and it’s DROPPING JAWS…

With the horrific joke that is Common Core polluting the already dysfunctional public education system, graduating from high school has never been more of a challenge.

Unfortunately, raging liberals in the city of Chicago, like Mayor Rahm Emanuel, have decided to make things even trickier than they were before.

Obama’s crony proposes that in order to graduate, students must have a plan put together about what they’ll do after high school.

Rather than fixing a deplorable school system under Democrat rule for decades, so that students can actually compete in the global marketplace, let’s shift put the onus on kids barely old enough to drive, let alone know what they want to do for the next 60 years.

Not only that, but with the cost of higher education and student debt inflating, why must government dictate anything after high school?

According to Fox News:

The initiative, pitched by former U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan and carried by Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, is targeted at encouraging students to plan for life after high school. It likely goes farther than any other public-school initiative to encourage post-secondary preparation. Mr. Emanuel called it a “game-changer.”

“The goal here is to no longer have 12th grade be the end of our responsibility,” Mr. Emanuel said in an interview. “The economy and business today require a minimum of two years post-high school.”

Students also could show acceptance letters for a job program; a trade or apprenticeship program; or a “gap-year” program, which could include travel, volunteer work or research before resuming the academic career. Those who have a job would be covered.

Exemptions would be available for undocumented students and those with life challenges, such as criminal records.

The Chicago Board of Education will consider the proposal next month. Mr. Emanuel assured that the board, which he appoints, would pass the measure.

Wow. Just wow.

The government is yet again doing its best to push its way into the private lives of citizens and force them to do something “or else.”

If students have done the work, showed up to class, and met the basic requirements, they should be given their diploma and allowed to do whatever they want after that. They shouldn’t be beholden to “Big Brother” or tethered by what the government wants them to be doing with their lives.

There’s little doubt this program is going to cause a massive increase in dropouts and an equally large decrease in the graduation rate as others fail. And just what about enforcement once kids do graduate? Who’s to follow up?

As usual, another plan no one thought out before trying to foist it upon the public.
