Remember that one time President Obama was nominated for a Nobel Prize for, well, to be honest, no one’s quite sure why he was nominated or received the thing, but anyway, when it happened the media made a huge spectacle out of the whole deal.Ironically, President Trump has also been nominated for the award, though strangely, the mainstream media seem nowhere to be found.
Perhaps if The Donald were a raging leftist the story would be covered?
Via The Daily Wire, Trump is nominated for “his vigorous peace through strength ideology, used as a threat weapon of deterrence against radical Islam, ISIS, nuclear Iran and Communist China,” according to a report by Agence France Presse.
While there were early rumors Israel may push the award for Trump, he was nominated by an American.“A near record 318 people and organizations are in the running for this year’s Nobel Peace Prize, the Nobel Institute said on Thursday, the motley crew believed to include Syria’s White Helmets, Donald Trump and Pope Francis,” AFP wrote. “The names of the nominees are kept secret for 50 years, but those entitled to nominate candidates – including lawmakers and government ministers, former laureates and some university professors – are free to reveal the name of the person or group they have nominated.”
Of course, there’s little chance the liberal group would award one to a Republican. Hell, Ronald Reagan ended the Cold War and he never got one.
But the Nobel committee loved Barack Obama, who famously received the Peace Prize less than nine months into his tenure just for creating a “new climate.”Its ex-secretary Geir Lundestad said that was a mistake.
“Even many of Obama’s supporters believed that the prize was a mistake,” he said. “In that sense the committee didn’t achieve what it had hoped for.”Trump once mocked Obama in 2013 for winning the prize, tweeting, “Our NOBEL PRIZE FOR PEACE president said ‘I’m really good at killing people’… Can Oslo retract the prize?”
It’s beyond silly that these awards are given away so nonchalantly, particularly just for speeches or “changing the climate” and other nonsense. It’s like a participation trophy on steroids.
Let’s hope President Trump’s “peace through strength” approach does measurably impact the world order in positive way. He don’t need no stinkin’ badges.
