Democrats have gathered in Atlanta, Georgia today to elect a new chairman. According to a live blog published by The Hill, it’s been a contentious affair from the get-go.

We ‘re apparently moments away from learning who will be elected to lead the Party (and Col. West had some thoughts on that earlier this week), but the day has not been without drama.

First there was a vote to reinstate the ban on contributions from lobbyists — a measure put into place by Barack Obama, but quietly eliminated by Debbie Wasserman Schultz. The ban was voted down, because according to The Hill, They feared it would limit donations from liberal activist groups at a time when the party is in the throes of a massive rebuilding projects.

Those who wanted to see the ban re-instituted argued that it was a symbolic measure to say to the nation that Democrats would not compromise their values.

“Values?” Ha!

Then just minutes before voting was to begin, the gay, 35-year-old mayor of South Bend, Indiana, Pete Buttigieg, dropped out of the race, leaving Tom Perez and Keith Ellison to duke it out.

Voting was to have taken place using electronic clickers, but problems ensued, which apparently couldn’t be resolved.

As a result, paper ballots were then handed out, causing some consternation from the crowd.

At 1:29 p.m. ET The Hill reported: Dems are passing out paper ballots. There were groans when Brazile informed members they would not use the electronic voting system because it could invite “interference” and was not reliable.

Love it!

Adam Green, an Ellison supporter and the founder of the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, slammed the decision to use paper ballots. The move could give fuel to Ellison backers to argue that the vote was not on the level.

Is that karma, or what?
