Someone connected to New Jersey Governor Chris Christie can order a lane closure on the George Washington Bridge to score revenge politically, and it becomes a scandal that destroyed Christie’s approval rating in the state. Liberals can congregate and block off highways in protest of Donald Trump — and the media will hail them as peaceful protesters. It’s become a tactic increasing in popularity, pioneered first by the Black Lives Matter movement, and, then, by anti-Trump kooks. It’s unclear how they think they’re going to bring anyone over their side. Do they really think someone stuck in traffic for four hours is going to make a special note to vote against Trump in the next election? Of course not.
At best, they’re wasting people’s time, and, at the very worst, they’re putting lives at risk. As we reported back in July of last year:
The Memphis Black Lives Matter rally shut down the I-40 bridge Sunday night with hundreds of protesters refusing to leave. Traffic could not go across, but paramedic Bobby Harrell with Crittenden EMS was determined to get to a child who was stuck on the bridge with his family. The paramedic who managed to get the child the care they needed, after nearly 30 minutes of delay.
And now, it’s anti-Trump protesters putting lives at risk.As the Boston Globe reported:
Protesters temporarily shut down a New Haven highway Saturday afternoon, delaying an ambulance that was on the road and forcing workers to perform an emergency medical procedure on a patient.
More than 100 people protesting President Trump’s travel ban blocked Route 34 in New Haven, according to the New Haven Register. As protesters were being cleared from the road, state police say ambulance workers had to perform a procedure on a critically ill patient in the vehicle instead of at the hospital.
State police say they found the leader of the protest, who immediately ran away, knocking over several of his supporters, before being caught.Authorities say they used pepper spray on Norman Clement, 66, after he resisted arrest. Clement faces numerous charges including inciting a riot. It’s unclear if he has an attorney.
The protesters, as a whole, have an attorney representing them, who claims that “the protesters said police are responsible for problems at the demonstration, including the delay of the ambulance stuck in traffic. Attorney Patricia Kane said protesters had asked police to inform them if emergency vehicles needed to get through — and that officers didn’t do so. Kane said she has been told the patient was a woman in labor.”
The Connecticut State Police reminded the public that protests blocking any highway or roadway is not only a crime, but dangerous and won’t be tolerated. All laws will be strictly enforced, they said.
So if we’re to believe their attorney, we’re to believe the police had foreknowledge an illegal blockade was going to occur, but if vehicles needed to get through all they had to do was ask? They could be complimented for their courtesy — if not for the 99.9% chance that excuse is bogus.
