Not quite 2 weeks into his presidency, and Donald Trump is already showing the kind of commander in chief he will be for our military.

Over the weekend, President Trump authorized a raid on a terrorist camp in Yemen. The raid, carried out by members of the elite Seal Team 6, was the first under President Trump, and succeeded in its objective. Sadly, the SEALs on the ground met fierce resistance, including a helicopter crash causing multiple injuries, and one American fatality.

Showing how seriously President Trump takes his duty as commander in chief, he is making a powerful gesture.

From Fox News:

President Donald Trump is making an unannounced trip to honor the returning remains of a U.S. Navy SEAL killed during a weekend raid on an Al Qaeda base in Yemen.

Trump was to arrive Wednesday afternoon at Delaware’s Dover Air Force Base.

Chief Special Warfare Operator William “Ryan” Owens, a 36-year-old from Peoria, Illinois, was the first known U.S. combat casualty since Trump took office less than two weeks ago.

Despite a busy agenda at the start of his term, including fights with Democrats over his cabinet and Supreme Court nominations, President Trump is showing that he stands behind our brave men and women in uniform. His choice to attend a private ceremony, and not alert the press ahead of time, speaks to the level of respect that Trump has for our service members, opting to keep the attention on the man who made the ultimate sacrifice for our safety.

Without the brave men and women who voluntarily put their lives at risk to serve our country, we would not have the freedoms we cherish today. Thankfully, President Trump understands their sacrifice, and his support of the fallen is a powerful sign of respect for those that will carry out his orders.
