FBI says DNC servers were hacked by Russia, but there’s one BIG problem…

By now, everyone is aware of the claims that Russians were actively working to undermine the candidacy of Hillary Clinton. Although the Russians didn’t actually interfere with the election process itself, authorities are confident they hacked prominent figures in Clinton’s inner circle in an attempt to erode public confidence in her.

Right before the convention, the DNC was hacked and damaging emails were released to the public via Wikileaks. The FBI was called in to investigate, and immediately came to the conclusion that the hack originated with the Russians. However, what ISN’T being covered is that the FBI didn’t even ask for access to the servers for their investigation. So how did they know it was Russia?

The FBI did not examine the servers of the Democratic National Committee before issuing a report attributing the sweeping cyberintrusion to Russia-backed hackers, BuzzFeed News has learned.

Six months after the FBI first said it was investigating the hack of the Democratic National Committee’s computer network, the bureau has still not requested access to the hacked servers, a DNC spokesman said. No US government entity has run an independent forensic analysis on the system, one US intelligence official told BuzzFeed News.

“The DNC had several meetings with representatives of the FBI’s Cyber Division and its Washington (DC) Field Office, the Department of Justice’s National Security Division, and U.S. Attorney’s Offices, and it responded to a variety of requests for cooperation, but the FBI never requested access to the DNC’s computer servers,” Eric Walker, the DNC’s deputy communications director, told BuzzFeed News in an email.

The FBI has instead relied on computer forensics from a third-party tech security company, CrowdStrike, which first determined in May of last year that the DNC’s servers had been infiltrated by Russia-linked hackers, the U.S. intelligence official told BuzzFeed News.

Somehow, the FBI was so confident in a third party investigation that they didn’t feel the need to investigate themselves. Never mind the fact that a foreign power meddling in our presidential election is a serious situation, the FBI just went along with the narrative.

Wikileaks founder Julian Assange has consistently denied that the Russians were involved in forwarding the hacked emails to his organization. In fact, Assange claims the hacks were not initiated by a state party at all.

What nobody has been able to provide is why the Russians were so eager to damage Hillary “Reset Button” Clinton’s campaign. Any adversary would be happy to undermine the public’s trust in our elections, but nobody has been able to explain why the Russians may have supported Donald Trump.

While everyone in Washington seems to be marching in lockstep with the rhetoric, serious questions continue to arise about the authenticity of the claims.
