BOOM: Trump makes good on first campaign promise…

In his interview last night with CBS’s ’60 Minutes,’ Donald Trump made good on an early campaign promise. He revealed he’d be doing what no president has done in over half a century: refuse to take a salary.

Back at a rally in September 17, 2015, Trump stated, “The first thing I’m going to do is tell you that if I’m elected president, I’m accepting no salary, okay? That’s not a big deal for me.” He repeated that a number of times at other rallies and interviews throughout his campaign.

Trump confirmed last night that he was keeping his promise, making him the first president since John F. Kennedy (and Herbert Hoover before him) to refuse a presidential salary.

As Townhall reported, in last night’s interview the billionaire seemed to have no idea how much he would make as president, and when interviewer Lesley Stahl informed him it was $400,000, he said he’d pass. “No, I’m not going to take the salary. I’m not taking it,” he said. “I think I have to by law take $1, so I’ll take $1 a year.”

Trump also pledged to pass on frequent vacations. “There’s just so much to be done,” he said. “So I don’t think we’ll be very big on vacations, no.”

So with that last promise — the opposite of Obama for sure.

The presidential salary is chump change for Trump anyway. In fact, given that he earned $557 million in 2015, $400k would only amount to what he’d made in about six hours on any given day. What the salary will go towards is unclear — JFK and Hoover both donated theirs to charities. If Trump opts to donate that salary to charity, I’m sure liberals will swarm to find any kind of wrongdoing that charity ever could’ve possibly done over the past millennia, so maybe that’s not the best idea.

Alternatively, he could use the money towards paying down the national debt, which, however small, is still $400k better than Obama ever did.
