In what may be the ultimate “October surprise,” the FBI has just announced it has reopened its investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email scandal while secretary of state, just 11 days before the presidential election.

More from Fox News:
FBI Director James Comey wrote in a letter to top members of Congress Friday that the bureau has “learned of the existence of emails that appear to be pertinent to the investigation.”Comey did not detail those emails, saying only that they surfaced “in connection with an unrelated case.”
He told lawmakers the investigative team briefed him on the information a day earlier, “and I agreed that the FBI should take appropriate investigative steps designed to allow investigators to review these emails to determine whether they contain classified information, as well as to assess their importance to our investigation.”He said the FBI could not yet assess whether the new material is significant and he could not predict how long it will take to complete “this additional work.”
The move comes after Comey and the Justice Department decided in July not to pursue charges over Clinton’s email practices.
Of course, we’ve just been learning more this week about the payoffs made to FBI associates from Hillary Clinton PACs, just to add to the American public’s fallen trust in the FBI and Justice Department in general. So it’s difficult not to see the latest move as suspect and question the motives behind it. Are they trying to reassert some semblance of “objectivity” and justice in the wake of the damning revelations? Will the new investigation be any more likely to amount to anything, regardless of the evidence that’s found?
And here’s why it may actually not be good news. Could it be that the FBI is doing this to HELP Hillary Clinton in these last days before the election? Her poll numbers have been sliding, presumable because of the increasingly damning revelations from Wikileaks. They’ve seen that the email scandal hasn’t seemed to damage Clinton’s prospects too terribly much, while it seems Wikileaks are. Today’s announcement will certainly, at least momentarily, take eyes off the increasingly damning revelations coming from Wikileaks. I know, crazy, but…
Nonetheless, regardless of the motives behind the announcement — or the likelihood that Hillary Clinton will ever be brought to justice — we can now say that the Democrat nominee for president is under investigation by the FBI. Just 11 days from election day.
