Folks, it is time for a little lesson in civics. God knows we truly need one. This great nation, these United States of America, was established as a Constitutional Republic, thanks to what happened 229 years ago last week Saturday on September 17, 1787.We have a rule of law, the Constitution, and before that seminal document could be ratified, there had to be the first ten amendments, the Bill of Rights. Those ten amendments clearly outline, as related to the grievances listed by Thomas Jefferson in the Declaration of Independence, that individual rights supersede the potential tyranny of a centralized government.
And if anyone had question about those first eight amendments, the Founding Fathers made it explicitly clear that those powers not enumerated to the federal government, were to reside with the states and the people.
You see, it was the states who established and validated the federal government, not the opposite. And in doing so, we created a system called Federalism. This is a very important lesson that has been forgotten because some believe America isn’t a Constitutional Republic, but rather a Constitutional Monarchy. Which is why the question posed to Benjamin Franklin back on September 17, 1787 is so relevant to today. When a lady named Mrs. Powell asked Franklin as he exited Independence/Constitution Hall whether we had a monarchy or a republic, he replied, “a Republic, if you can keep it.”
One American state began as its own Republic, and even as a member of this union, truly understands the meaning of federalism. As reported by Reuters, “Texas gave notice on Wednesday that it was withdrawing from participating in the U.S. Office of Refugee Resettlement’s program, citing security concerns after failing in federal court to halt the inflow of Syrian refugees into the state.
The Texas State Refugee Coordinator sent a letter to the agency, giving 120 days notice of its intention to withdraw, charging the program was riddled with problems that present security risks, Republican Governor Greg Abbott said.
The Office of Refugee Resettlement said in a statement its services to help integrate newcomers into U.S. society are only provided after they complete stringent U.S. security screenings. “Despite multiple requests by the State of Texas, the federal government lacks the capability or the will to distinguish the dangerous from the harmless, and Texas will not be an accomplice to such dereliction of duty to the American people,” Abbott said in a statement.Texas, a bellwether state for conservative policies, has seen other Republican-led states follow its lead in challenging the Obama administration’s refugee resettlement plans in and out of the courts.
“The security vetting for this population – the most vulnerable of individuals – is extraordinarily thorough and comprehensive,” U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson said in a joint, five-page letter to Abbott in November which outlined the process.Since Jan. 1, 2011, there have been 1,104 Syrian refugees resettled in Texas, according to the U.S. State Department-affiliated Refugee Processing Center. The Obama administration said on Aug. 29 it would meet its goal of admitting 10,000 Syrian refugees during the current fiscal year a month ahead of schedule and was working with Congress to increase the target by a few thousand during 2017.”
Gotta tell y’all, I am truly proud to call Texas home and Texas Governor Greg Abbott my governor. Governor Abbott understands his responsibility to the citizens of the Great State of Texas and knows when he should tell the federal government “time out.”
Of course, there are those who’ll castigate Governor Abbott in some negative manner, perhaps refer to him as being an occupant of the “basket of deplorables” referring to him as a racist, xenophobe, or islamophobe…but let’s review the facts in this case.
First, consider the domestic Islamic jihadist recruiting ground that has become Minnesota. That happened because of a Somali refugee program. Just this past weekend, nine citizens of the state of Minnesota were assaulted with a knife by a Somali jihadist. Over the past year or so, there’ve been nine terrorist charge convictions emanating from the Somali community in Minnesota. And the father of the Crossroads Mall jihadist, after being in the United States for fifteen years, had to use an interpreter in order to conduct an interview.
As well, ISIS, the most barbaric and savage Islamic terrorist group we’ve known, has vowed to infiltrate the Syrian refugee flow into western nations. Don’t believe that’s the case? Then look at Germany and the adverse affects of Angela Merkel’s open border refugee resettlement program.
And what Merkel did has had ramifications for adjacent European Union countries such as Belgium and France. We also shared with you the fact that the US Central Command (CENTCOM) J-2 Intelligence officer informed us of the estimated 30,000 jihadists who’ve crossed our southern border.
Next, consider that the Secretary of Homeland Security, Jeh Johnson, is head of an organization that failed in the systems check of one Tashfeen Malik, who came to the United States on a fiancée visa by providing a false address.
If we have a DHS agency too incompetent to check the address of one, how can we expect them to certify, and “extremely vet” hundreds of thousands? We can’t.
Just this week, State Department spokesman John Kirby acknowledged that Islamic State terrorists are trying to mingle with refugee populations overseas in the hopes of making it to the U.S. posing as a refugee.
He’d like to convince us that “The vetting process, while not perfect, is a very, very stringent, and it can take almost up to two years for a single refugee to make it into the country,” But he also admits, “Is it perfect? Can it be perfect? Can it be foolproof? Well, probably not, no.”
As well, we recently shared with you the report of the DHS “mistakenly” granting citizenship to some 870 individuals who came from countries with definitive security concerns. And Governor Abbott is supposed to trust Jeh Johnson’s five-page memo? If you wish, go back and look at the House testimony of DHS officials and others who admit they don’t have a clear handle on countless illegal immigrants in our country.
Along with that, add in sanctuary cities, and the fact that the Obama administration has been releasing scores of criminal illegal immigrants — and our sovereign states are supposed to trust this Obama administration with safety and security of their citizens?
We have an Obama administration aligned with the insidious policy of lifting the surveillance program in New York City, because Bill de Blasio thought it was offensive…as championed by a Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated organization, the Council for American Islamic Relations.
The liberal progressive socialists are going freaking nuts right now over the use of the word “profiling.” Well, here’s a real explanation of that action: trend analysis. Perhaps if we had trend analysis in Minnesota we wouldn’t have rampant Islamist radicalization going on right beneath our noses.
Lastly, I believe 49 out of our 50 states have either Constitutional or legislative mandates for a balanced budget amendment — not the case for the federal government.
Our states cannot print or borrow excessive amounts of money in order to justify massive debts. So what happens is the federal government comes up with these foolish schemes such as the refugee resettlement program and issues mandates to our states to provide social services. And if the states were to accept funding (grants) from the federal government, they’re then slaves to what should be subservient to them, except in grave cases such as segregation where the federal government has the right to uphold the Constitution.
I don’t recall anywhere in our Constitution where it says the federal government has the enumerated right to mandate refugees to states. Consider the increase in costs for education, unemployment and healthcare being imposed on states — should they then raise taxes in order to provide these services?
Also, there’s another concern no one wants to discuss: health. These refugees are coming from regions where some simple diseases run rampant. For instance, due to my military service in Iraq and Afghanistan, I am prohibited from EVER donating blood in the United States. One of the big health concerns in Afghanistan was tuberculosis (TB)…just think, what other diseases could we be exposing our children to?
Now, perhaps if you’re a liberal progressive socialist, none of this makes any difference to you. After all, you don’t believe in the fundamental principles of America, your objective is fundamental transformation of America and the implementation of your progressive socialist ideological agenda.
You leftists struggle to call Islamic terrorism Islamic terrorism — even as the enemy tells you who they are and what they intend. When there are terrorist attacks in America, you lovers of unicorns and rainbows deflect and shift the issue to gun control — so after Minnesota should we ban knives?
IEDs are now being employed in the United States of America…let me say that again, the weapon of choice in the combat zones by Islamic terrorists has now found its way onto our streets. This isn’t about compassion, unit, and love; this is about the safety and security of the American citizens, those who reside within the sovereign states. Barack Obama and his ilk don’t comprehend that. But you know, he has PLENTY of security guarding him.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott is a resolute and principled leader who embodies the maxim, “Don’t Mess with Texas.”
Y’all need to ask, each of you, does your governor give a damn about you, or is he or she just a puppet and lackey of Barack Obama and his deranged scheme to fundamentally transform our Republic and endanger our lives?
