If you didn’t already think our nation’s public school system has been overrun by radical progressives doing their best to indoctrinate your kids, this may just convince you.A history teacher from North Carolina is catching major heat for desecrating the American flag as part of a class lesson.
Unfortunately for this guy, the incident was photographed and plastered all over the internet, where it went viral. This is unbelievably disrespectful.
According to the Washington Times, A parent’s Facebook picture showing Lee Francis standing over a crumpled flag in his class at Massey Hill Classical High School has gone viral with more than 10,000 shares, The Fayetteville Observer reported.Sara Taylor, whose child attends Massey Hill but is not enrolled in Mr. Francis’ class, wrote that the teacher first asked students for a lighter or scissors to destroy the flag.
“When there were no scissors he took the flag and stomped all over it. He is saying this was teaching First Amendment rights,” Ms. Taylor wrote.
“I called the Principal Dr. [Pamela] Adams and asked her why he couldn’t have talked about it and not actually disrespect the flag like that and she completely stood up for him,” Ms. Taylor added.Cumberland County Superintendent Frank Till Jr. told The Observer that he learned of the incident Tuesday morning, but he’s waiting to gather all the facts before determining if any action should be taken against the teacher.
Not only did Francis suffer mega internet backlash, he’s now been placed on leave as a result of his flag “demonstration.” Here are a few more details, via USA Today:
A North Carolina high school teacher was placed on leave Tuesday after stepping on an American flag during a history lesson, according to local reports.Lee Francis, who teaches at Massey Hill Classical High School in Fayetteville, N.C., told the Fayetteville Observer he stepped on the flag during a lesson about the First Amendment.
“My question to everyone is who is entitled to freedom of speech?” he asked the Observer. “Does everyone have access to freedom of speech? It’s unfortunate that all this has happened.”
“Just because I step on the flag doesn’t mean I step on their graves,” Francis said. “It doesn’t mean I step on their bodies as they return from overseas. It means I step on a piece of fabric.”
Thanks to celebrities in pop culture adopting anti-American propaganda — like Colin Kaepernick, for example — it’s now become cool and hip to hate America and the flag.
While Francis claims he was using it to teach a lesson about free speech, there’s no doubt he could have used any number of other ways to illustrate this — even pointing out that in our nation, yes, this type of speech is permissible — without setting a living example of disrespect to our flag and our nation.
Fox News’ Todd Starnes aptly suggests that, “should Mr. Francis need to find gainful employment, perhaps he would be more comfortable with a career in the National Football League.” Perhaps indeed.
Sadly, this is yet another example of the fish rotting from the head; after nearly two terms of a president who disrespects and shames America, this is what we get.
