Less than one week after a man used a truck and a gun to murder 84 and wound hundreds, passengers on a train in Germany were attacked today by a man wielding an axe and a knife. More than 20 people are injured, some of them with what have been described as “life-threatening” injuries.Early reports suggest the attacker was a migrant from Afghanistan. The Telegraph UK reports:
Die Welt reports that the attacker was a 17-year-old Afghan, citing Bavarian politician Joachim Herrmann.
A spokesman for the Bavarian interior ministry said the attacker shouted “Allahu Akbar” (God is great).
However, authorities have not named a motive and refuse to comment on whether or not it was a terrorist attack. Umm, well I’m just gonna go out on a limb and say the words “Allahu Akbar” might be a clue to the motive. And you just have to ask, in what possible scenario does attacking innocent passengers with an axe NOT qualify as terror?More about the attack from BBC:
More than 20 people in Germany have received medical treatment after a man with an axe and a knife went on the rampage on a train, German media say.
They include three seriously injured people, one with minor injuries and 14 who are in shock.
A police operation is under way in Heidingsfeld, part of the city of Wurzburg in Germany.A police spokesman at the scene said (in German) that the attacker was shot dead while fleeing.
A journalist with the national broadcaster ZDF tweeted that the attacker was a 17-year-old Afghan man.The train line between Wurzburg-Heidingsfeld and Ochsenfurt has been closed.
Most reports are not yet reporting the identity or description of the attacker — which almost guarantees he is not a white Christian. More reports continue to come out, however, saying he is a 17-year-old Afghan migrant:
The Minister of Interior for Bavaria said that the attacker was a 17-year-old from Afghanistan. The minister added that the suspect came to Germany as refugee.
Will this case of another another radical Islam-inspired (at the very least) terrorist entering the country as a refugee cause our leaders of the Western world to wake up? Experience would suggest this is less likely than them suddenly targeting axes and knives for banning, as they have guns in the wake of similar attacks carried out by radical Islamists.
Meanwhile, will anyone dare ask the question how many people might have been spared the axe (literally, in this case) had a good guy with a gun been on hand?
