How ironic. I (Michele Hickford) was in the midst of editing Allen West’s upcoming story about the consequences of President Obama’s speech last week in the aftermath of the tragic shootings in Louisiana and Minnesota, which spiked attacks on police when this report came in over the wire.As reported by Fox News, Police arrested five people for allegedly trying to ambush Washington D.C. officers early Tuesday, officials said. No injuries were reported.
The latest incident follows protests over police shootings of black men in Louisiana and Minnesota and the fatal shooting of five police officers in Dallas last week.
Officers in marked police cruisers who were responding to reports of gunshots in southeast Washington D.C. when they were shot at by people inside an SUV, police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck said.
Police returned fire at the suspects, who barricaded themselves in the vehicle, Sternbeck said. Police ordered the group to come out, but they refused. After about 30 minutes, three women and two men in the SUV surrendered to authorities.
Naturally the police spokesman said it wasn’t immediately clear why the people would fire on police.
Oh. Come. On.Col. West is fond of repeating the quote from the movie “Gladiator,” “At my signal unleash hell.” But it seems in this case President Obama has.
