Hillary Clinton claims her interview with the FBI was “voluntary.” It’s nice of her to voluntarily spend more of her time with the FBI (three and a half hours) than she spent taking questions from press reporters this entire election cycle. Most frustrating than the FBI letting her off the hook was that when it was announced, James Comey essentially shot down every talking point Hillary had given in defense of her private email server – then said there was nothing they could do. It makes you wonder what exactly she and the FBI discussed. Wouldn’t you like to know?
According to The Hill, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is demanding that Hillary’s email be made public as GOP lawmakers are demanding more investigation into her use of a private email server.
“It’s pretty clear … that the American people would like to see what Hillary Clinton said to the FBI,” McConnell told reporters during his weekly press conference.
McConnell and Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) noted that lying to the agency was a punishable offense. “There’s no particular penalty for lying to the public, unless the public get tired of it, but there’s a real penalty for lying about the FBI,” McConnell said.McConnell’s comments came after Cornyn voiced support for releasing any information tied to the FBI’s probe, including the 3.5-hour interview that took place days before Comey’s announcement.
“Only when we get the complete investigation out, including that three-and-a-half hour interview with the FBI, will the American people have the information they need in order to make a final judgement,” the Senate’s No. 2 Republican said.
The GOP has united in opposition to the FBI’s decision, and House committee chairmen plan to call both Comey and Attorney General Loretta Lynch to answer questions about the inquiry. On the other hand, maybe there is no smoking gun. Did any of us seriously think Hillary would be charged anyway? The lengthy interview could’ve been just for show for all we know.
