Liberals will want to BAN the 4th of July after reading this…

Have any of you ever seen the movie “An American Carol?” It’s a lesser known film from David Zucker (Airplane, Naked Gun, etc.) that parodies Michael Moore. In the film, a documentary filmmaker named “Michael Malone” embarks on his latest project – abolishing the 4th of July. As a parody of “A Christmas Carol,” Malone is visited by the ghost of none other than General George S. Patton, who aims to set him straight.

The film is satirical, but after stumbling upon a Harvard study on how the 4th of July influences politics, I can’t help but think there are a few liberals who would second Malone.

The study “Shaping the nation: The Effect of Forth of July on Political Preferences and Behavior in the United States” found that “that days without rain on Fourth of July in childhood shift adult views and voting in favor of the Republicans and increase turnout in presidential elections. The effects we estimate are highly persistent throughout life and originate in early age.

The study concluded: “One Fourth of July without rain before age 18 increases the likelihood of identifying as a Republican at age 40 by 2 percent, the share of people voting for the Republican candidate at age 40 by 4 percent, and the share of people turning out to vote at age 40 by 0.9 percent.”

In other words, the more often you’re able to actually be outside celebrating Independence Day, the more likely you are to vote Republican.

So on that note – go out an enjoy the holiday!
