Days after carrying out the worst mass public shooting in America, and months after the atrocities in Paris and Brussels, Europe is on watch yet again. The Daily Caller just reported Islamic State terrorist units have left Syria and are traveling to France and Belgium to engage in terrorists attacks, warned a French official Wednesday.
Security services across Europe have been put on alert after Belgian intelligence informed their French counterparts of the possible attacks Tuesday. France remains “very cautious” due to the fact such notes are received fairly regularly, though recent terrorist events in Orlando and Paris have authorities on edge. The French official spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity due to the secret nature of the information.
It’s unclear whether or not this has any connection to the police officer and wife who were stabbed to death outside Paris on Monday by an ISIS member. The terrorist groups are reportedly traveling to Belgium and France through Turkey and Greece, according to an alert message obtained by Belgium’s Deriere Heure tabloid. Despite the potential threat, Belgium has not changed its alert level.
“We are still on level three, quite a high level of threat,” said Benoit Ramacker to AP, a spokesman for Belgium’s Crisis Center. Belgium has four threat levels, with three meaning there is a serious threat, while four means an attack is likely. Belgium has maintained a level three or higher since the Paris attacks in November.
France remains in a state of emergency after last year’s attacks in Paris. Recently, there had been significant concerns ISIS would attempt to engage in an attack during the European Championship soccer tournament. At the beginning of Ramadan, ISIS did warn that the Euro 2016 (soccer tournament) would be the target of an attack. Let’s pray all of this is nonsense chatter and comes to nothing.
