Most of the #NeverTrump crowd has yet to morph into the #NeverHillary crowd. While I understand they plan on voting for neither candidate (a position taken by figures such as Mitt Romney, Jeb Bush, and John McCain), a vote for nobody is a vote for Hillary – especially so for those living in swing states.Like him or hate him, you have to admit that The Donald is at least preferable to Hillary Clinton. While he had originally endorsed Sen.Ted Cruz for the presidency, Texas Governor Greg Abbott is opening up to Trump – and he has a few words for those who won’t vote for him at all costs.
As CNBC just reported: Abbott threw his support behind Trump after the other GOP presidential hopefuls dropped out. And although he was light on specific praise for Trump, Abbott was emphatic about the need to support him.
“I may or may not agree with everything that Donald Trump says — I didn’t agree with everything that (2012 GOP presidential nominee) Mitt Romney stood for or that (2008 nominee) John McCain stood for,” Abbott said. “But here’s what I do know, … Hillary is far worse for America than Donald Trump would be.”
The Texas governor particularly cited Clinton’s positions on energy industry regulation, fighting the Islamic State and immigration in explaining his opposition to the former secretary of state. For every Trump scandal the media turns up, there’s ten Hillary scandals they’d rather ignore. Trump may not be the most conservative Republican, but he is the most conservative candidate remaining.
