On ABC’s This Week Sunday yesterday, reporter Jon Karl suggested GOP presidential Ted Cruz could announce a running mate prior to next week’s critical Indiana primary. He suggested Carly Fiorina would be the “one person” to fill that role.Almost as if in response, this afternoon Cruz’s campaign confirmed it has a ‘short list’ of potential vice presidential candidates — and indeed, former rival Fiorina is on that list.
Via NBC News:
Cruz’s campaign manager tweeted that they “have narrowed our VP candidates to a short list and are going thru the normal processes associated with picking a running mate.” A top aide to Fiorina confirmed to NBC News that the former Hewlett-Packard CEO who endorsed Cruz earlier this year was on the list.
Following the tweet, Cruz told reporters “any responsible candidate, just a couple of months out from the convention, would begin that process.”“At this point no decisions have been made in terms of who a nominee would be, or what the timing would be of the announcement,” Cruz added.

John Kasich’s campaign confirmed to NBC News they also are vetting potential vice presidential picks. But chief strategist John Weaver told NBC News, “We are conducting a deliberative process and not in public.”
The Weekly Standard reports a spokeswoman for Fiorina confirming that the former Hewlett-Packard CEO is being vetted by Cruz’s campaign.“Normal stuff,” said Sarah Isgur Flores, who served as deputy campaign manager during Fiorina’s bid, when asked about the process. She added that Fiorina has met with members of the Cruz campaign and has given them financial disclosures and other documentation. Flores added that “no offers” have been made.
With the screws tightening in the race for the nomination, any new information or suggestion of vision could help (or hurt, depending on the particular news and a particular voter’s view of it) a candidate in his quest during the upcoming primaries.
How do y’all feel about this news from Cruz?
