Ok, here we go again. The pudgy little fat kid with the bad haircut is at it once more – and that’s not just about constantly shooting off of missiles, conducting nuclear tests and the incessant threats. Needless to say, he sees Iran getting away with it, and figures why not me? And if any of you don’t believe there’s some collusion between North Korea and Iran, you’re smokin’ whacky tobacky. So, following Iran’s lead, North Korea has taken another act of defiance towards the United States – and this time, an American citizen.
As reported by Fox News, “North Korea’s highest court sentenced an American tourist to 15 years in prison with hard labor for subversion on Wednesday, weeks after authorities presented him to media and he tearfully confessed that he had tried to steal a propaganda banner.
Otto Warmbier, 21, a University of Virginia undergraduate, was convicted and sentenced in a one-hour trial in North Korea’s Supreme Court.
He was charged with subversion under Article 60 of North Korea’s criminal code. The court held that he had committed a crime “pursuant to the U.S. government’s hostile policy toward (the North), in a bid to impair the unity of its people after entering it as a tourist.
“North Korea regularly accuses Washington and Seoul of sending spies to overthrow its government to enable the U.S.-backed South Korean government to take control of the Korean Peninsula.
Before the trial, Warmbier had said he tried to steal a propaganda banner as a trophy for an acquaintance who wanted to hang it in her church. That would be grounds in North Korea for a subversion charge. He identified the church as Friendship United Methodist Church. Meshach Kanyion, pastor of the church in Wyoming, declined to comment Wednesday.

Warmbier was arrested as he tried to leave the country in early January. He was in North Korea with a New Year’s tour group. U.S. tourism to North Korea is legal. Arrests of tourists are rare but the U.S. State Department strongly advises against such travel.”
I know, some of you out there are thinking, who goes to North Korea as a tourist? I got it, not a very smart move, but there’s something bigger here.Otto Warmbier is an American citizen and, just as with Iran, we cannot allow any other belligerent nation to believe they can treat our citizens in this manner. I watched the video of the tearful confession of Mr. Warmbier as well and no one would begin to conceive this kid was capable of “subversion.”
Kim Jung Un has been given a green light by his handlers, China, and Xi Jinping. China is on its own conducting its version of “manifest destiny” and has built the islands in the South China Sea and militarily fortifying them. Therefore, China sees U.S. weakness and feels no need to rein in the mad little fella in North Korea.
And what is Obama’s response to this action by North Korea? Is he demanding the release of young Warmbier? Of course not. Instead the U.S. is issuing “robust new sanctions.” However, according to the White House statement, they are in response to North Korea’s January 6 nuclear test and February 7 launch using ballistic missile technology,” Poor Otto appears to be SOL.
Recently, in an interview with The Atlantic magazine, Barack Obama stated that he was proud of his Syria policy. So in other words, Obama admitted he was proud to have given rise to an Islamic jihadist group that has beheaded Americans.
I would have to ask, is Barack Obama proud overall of his foreign policy that continues to put targets on the backs of Americans? Is Obama proud of having ten Sailors on their knees at gunpoint just so he could have his Iranian nuclear agreement — a worthless piece of paper that Iran has violated on countless occasions? And is Obama proud that Otto Warmbier, an American citizen, has been sentenced to fifteen years hard labor in a North Korean prison for the stupidity of trying to steal a propaganda banner?
Heck, that’s right up there with sophomoric pranks such as the Naval Academy trying to steal the Army Mule.
Barack Obama came into office promising he would restore our standing in the world. It seems he’s advocated for and advanced our kneeling in subservient weakness before the world. And let’s be honest, the world loves this; a weak and embarrassed America. Yes, we’re liked but totally disrespected. And who pays for this? American citizens, the everyday folks who have the target on their backs.
We need a president who will convey a simple message: you don’t get to imprison Americans on insidious charges. If you do, there will be a heavy price to pay.
But can I make a simple recommendation? There are a lot of places to visit as a tourist. You idealistic college students who believe in rainbows, unicorns, and Bernie Sanders need to cross North Korea off that list.
