Remember when Super Bowl half time shows were produced by Disney? When there were marching bands and patriotic displays rather than “wardrobe malfunctions?”Yeah, I hardly remember that either. Now it’s not even about the music anymore. It’s become a political platform – and surely will be tonight when Beyoncé hits the stage to perform her new song “Formation.”
As the Daily Mail reports, Beyoncé will perform a rallying cry for the Black Lives Matter movement at the Super Bowl a day after releasing the new song.
The 34-year-old surprised fans on Saturday by dropping a video to Formation, which features flood-ridden New Orleans and a line of white cops facing a hooded little boy.
‘Let’s get in formation… Prove to me you got some coordination,’ she chants before the camera pans over graffiti that says: ‘stop shooting us’.Let’s hope she doesn’t include in her performance this pose, which figures prominently in her video. Not exactly sure for whom the gesture is intended? Surely not her fans who fund her lavish lifestyle?
Here’s the video if you’d like to watch it, but be warned, this is not the “clean” version.
Once again I must say I’m so disheartened by the continuing cultural decline in our nation. I realize it is every generation’s job to shock the previous, but when even presidential hopefuls are publicly suggesting folks should go “f**k themselves” it gives me pause.Wherever the bar is set by leaders in politics, fashion, music and sports, the public will set theirs lower. Folks, we’ve got to start raising the bar or we’ll all be limbo-ing on our backs, unable to get back up.
